Mission Engineering EP-1?

Post by PScooter63 »

There's been only a couple of posts about Mission Engineering's expression pedals over the years, none very recently. Anyone using one of these with their Nord? Love it, or hate it?

They advertise a 10K linear pot, which is what Fatar uses (and there's a Fatar setting for my E4HP)... so maybe the Fatar setting would be best to use with one of these?

(And please, no one chime in on how much they love their Yamaha pedal; I tried one already, the travel's too extreme for my ankles in a gig setup.)

(I also own a Boss FV-500L; while I like it physically, it doesn't seem to gel 100% with my Nord. And besides, I use it elsewhere in my rig.)

Thanks!!

Re the travel on your FC-7. You do know that you can take the screw out, pull the pedal apart, and re-assemble it in the other slot to change the angle of the foot? it was designed for playing when standing up, but it gives you an alternative angle.

No, I didn't know that! Good to know for the future, but I don't own an FC7... I used one when I played a theatre's in-house Motif variant.

Even so, i'm still leaning toward the EP-1, because it's nice to have interchangeable pedals... The FC7 is electrically incompatible with all my other instruments.

So, no one's tried one of these...?

Bruce Wahler used to make an adapter for the FC- 7 if you feel so inclined.

That's certainly interesting, but I'm looking for anyone with experience with the pedal in the subject line.

I bought a Yamaha FC7. I have been used to using Boss FV100/200/500 in my guitar rigs over the last 25 years. The Yamaha feels awful. Weird angle before and after you alter it to the different angle option. Don't like it at all.

Looks like you are out of luck PScooter! A couple of alternatives come to mind, I have a Crumar long throw expression pedal, only available by mail order, from Crumar in Italy. It has less travel than an FC-7, and is reasonably priced. If you don't want to take a chance on that, M Audio do an expression pedal for not too many $$$$, and Moog have one that is quite well thought of, and has a detachable lead, which is great, as this is where pedals normally fail.

Hammond have a couple, but they are fairly spendy, as is the offering from Roland. If it were me, I would try and check out any that I have mentioned in store, and if no-one close to you has stock, try and buy either the EP-1 or the M Audio or Moog on approval, and return them if they don't suit.

Good luck!

@vinnyburns, that's pretty much how I felt about the FC-7 I tried (though it was not mine to adjust).

@Six-string-man, I'm pretty resolute to buy one of these EP-1s. The $$ don't bother me, if it will last (as has been the case with the FV-500L, that sucker's built like a tank, but a bit bulky). The big thing about the EP-1 is the linear 10k taper, which means it would also work with all my other (older) keyboards if needed. And the idea of a RED pedal to match my E4HP is just too tempting. ;)

I'll report back to the group after I've had it for a few gigs, thanks everyone!

FWIW, I've met with the Mission guys and they certainly seem to have their "stuff" together...

The issue I would be concerned with would be the cable & or plug.
