Nord Stage 2 why so small memory?

The Nord Stage 2 is a fabulous keyboard but why so little memory?? Why not a terrabyte? Its seems so silly to let things down by having ot use 'medium' or 'small' samples. Why not simply leave a lot of room for all samples?

Doeds anyone understnads why?

Hello ZeroZero.
Welcome to the forum!
Have you priced a Terrabyte of solid state memory lately?

IMHO,
I believe that Clavia/ Nord was trying to be as price competitive as possible.
Any additional memory, and subsequent redesign, would have caused them to lose their price edge.

The NS2 has enough memory for the large version of every acoustic grand in the current Nord V5 library.
The memory for the synth section's samples is independent of the piano memory, it has room for up to 999 Sample Instruments.
It's very easy to change samples around with the provided software.

Would I like more memory?
Yes I would!
More is always better... until it comes to the price of the instrument.

Just my 2 centavos worth.
Cheers, Hanon

Why not a port for a USB memory stick of your choice and size?

Thanks for giving me an idea of what the NS2 can hold. I am probably gonig to buy the NS2 very very soon

if i recall correctly the stages use flash ram, which - while also used by solid state drives - doesn't mean it's a solid state drive per-se, it's just ram connected to the main board.. the component cost itself is fairly negligible, i'm seeing rates of well under $10 per G of flash ram now.. i imagine the reasons for limiting the ram where it is are: 1. R&D costs - the larger the ram space the more development needed for accessing all of those registers, though it's just a small extension of an existing cost, and 2. if they put a terabyte of ram in there, why would you need the Stage 3 in 2015? I suspect it's more the latter than the former..

A Nord Stage 3.
It's official, I'm starting a thread <*:oDX

I sooo thought that they'd release the Nord Stage 2 Ex first.

There are different kinds of flash RAM. In order for it to be accessed as real-time memory (as opposed to storage) it has to be NOR flash, which is much more expensive than the NAND flash used in storage media. That's why the RAM in Nord, Yamaha XF, Kurzweil PC3K is expensive and so supplied in relatively small amounts. (The cost to add 1 gB of flash to a Motif XF is $300.) Korg Kronos takes a different approach, streaming off SSD... but it can probably only do that because it is running on a Linux OS, which inherently supports virtual memory.

To fransvannoo

I'm afraid the answer is simply "no".

Stage 2 EX.

Stage 3.

Stage 3 EX.

Stage * with expandable memory, only the synth section.

Stage * Deluxe with fully expandable memory.

Stage * Deluxe with new improved keyboard.....

I'm personally waiting on the Stage * Deluxe.

With all business models like these, they have to give you the full deal at some point. We are still ambling along though...

Hi jazzystu

That really made me chuckle out loud..so true. Except that the * Deluxe will have the Hammond section removed...
