NR2 - Own sysex is received, downloaded are not
NR2 - Own sysex is received, downloaded are not
Weird problem here: I backed up my patches from the NR2 to my MacBook using Sysex Librarian.
That worked, I got a file and I can send it back and the NR2 responds by increasing the patch numbers during transmission.
However, when I download patches and send them in exactly the same way, my NR2 doesn't respond at all.
Nothing is transfered, no light blinking, no numbers increasing.
And it wasn't in the editing buffer either, as pressing store didn't change anything.
I am sure there was data, because my interface and patchbay were both signalling midi data.
I also checked the sysex ID, it was 33 in the downloaded files.
Any ideas where to start looking for a solution?

Re: NR2 - Own sysex is received, downloaded are not
Is this just one set of downloaded patches from one location, or does this happen with different patches downloaded from different places?

Both the downloaded patches from Clavia's website as this DiscoDSP collection don't work.

I'm a little unclear on this -- you've exposed a hole in my Nord collection. My NL2 was sold to a backline company in need last year and I haven't replaced it yet, so I'm not able to recreate your scenario, but...
I seem to recall that some early Nord sysex dump formats included channel info and that the instrument receiving the dump had to be set to the same channel as that on which the dump was made in order to receive it. If you are sophisticated enough to look at sysex IDs, then you can probably figure out the channel designator as well from the sysex header, before the program data starts. Try setting your NL2 to that channel and running the dump again. Or perhaps editing the channel designator in the dump file to match what is shown in your own dumps.
Please let us know if any of this helps at all, and good luck!
Bless,
Pablo

Ah, thanks for that information, this is definitely something I can figure out.
Re: NR2 - Own sysex is received, downloaded are not
Yep, it was indeed the embedded MIDI channel in the SysEx file.
It needs to correspond with the Global MIDI channel of the Nord.
Mine was set to 5 but the downloaded files wanted the Global channel to be at the default, 16.
To complete this thread for future reference: it's the third byte of the SysEx file.
You need to add one to the value in the file to get the channel number.
So my own backup file read 04h, which was Global channel 5 and the factory files have 0Fh in the third byte, which is channel 16.
It's easier to change the Global channel than it is to edit the files, but if you really want to, it is doable with a hex editor.
Persons who don't know what that is, should probably not use it
Anyway, thanks again, problem solved!

For those who don't know, a hex editor as someone who's job it to proof-read witch's spells before publicationAxiMaxi wrote:it is doable with a hex editor.
