NL4 overall volume low?

Post by Motion Drive »

Is it just me or is the NL4 quite low in volume? When I add the NL4 into my Projects in Cubase, I have to turn up the main- and the presetvolume completely and even then it’s not enough. I still keep quite lot headroom in Cubase during producing and even my Virus TI on full volume seems almost twice as loud.

I have the NL4 running thru a RME Multiface connected with Vovox cables

Thx for inputs

Hej Motion Drive!

Just a quick guess here ... are you recording in stereo ... panning out the channels enough, L&R, or separate channels, to avoid phase cancelling???
Seems to be a quite common issue.

I run stereo (truly separate channels) all the way and have full power!

well...i have running two cables out of the NL4 into my RME...then directly into Cubase. In Cubase i open it on a normal Stereo Channel...not seperate channels.

So I need to send two seperate channels and pan them l&r ??? never did this on any Hardware Stereo synth...

Hej Motion!

I dunno exactly ... just wanted you to check the most obvious ... well, you seem to have separate cables to your "soundcard", anyhow ...
Just wait - swomeone else here will help you soon!

And the Virus works fine with two audio cables? In a similar way?
You are running it on Windows?

Virus is all thru USB and internal Audio-Interface of the TI...not thru the RME

I dont think so, that the Stereo Thing is the issue...when i open a Stereo-Channel in Cubase, ist like two Mono Channels with the proper panning...

Maybe something with my RME....on the other Hand..i never had something like this with other Hardware synths

Hi Motion Drive,

Had the same issue here.

In Cubase go to the Pre-Gain Level in the Mix Console, and boost the Pre Gain input level by moving it to the right, that will boost the NL4 input gain by a few dbs. Use your ears to judge the amount of db gain you feel is good enough via your monitoring system.

Here is a pic to help you find this in the Cubase Mix Console.

Hope this helps.
