My band demands more dirt from me than the C2D can deliver, so I bought a strymon lex so that I can use overdrive or distortion pedals in the signal chain. When the drive on the lex is used with the drive on the C2D, I get plenty of distortion, but to my ears, the drive in C2D isn't very pleasing and a little bit thin. I tried my t-rex möller pedal (that I normally use with my guitars) but I didn't quite like it, as it was also quite thin and I want a more meaty and brutal sound. Do any of you have any suggestions of overdrive pedals that work well with the C2D (I only use the B3 emulation)?

I also tried the Lex. Even though it's a
good quality pedal I also found it to be a tad thin.
I then tried a VHT v-drive pedal which was pretty
nexpensive and it was about as good as anything I had heard.
This pedal has a lot of good characteristics for under A $100-.
Another option might be a ventilator or mini-vent.
Although they are known more for their Leslie effect.

I don't have any problems with the leslie sound from the strymon lex, it sounds fine and the drive sounds good to my ears but I want more drive than the lex can provide. The v-drive was very cheap, I might try one out. Thanks!

The NS2/C2 leslie distorsion is better for a rock band. The C2D distorsion try to emulate the leslie distorsion.

Looks good! Perhaps a bit expensive though. I tried inserting my sansamp bass driver DI (that I use for bass) before the strymon lex, and this got much closer to the sound I'm after. Not perfect, but quite close. I'll try it out at loud volume in the rehearsal room before I'll buy anything else.

Supposedly, the new MINI-VENTILATOR has the type of overdrive distortion that some players of all clones seek. I purposefully resisted the urge to upgrade to the C2d sound because i loved the overdrive sound of the C2. the overdrive of the C2d does not increase the gain as does the C2. Most players upgrade to the C2d upgrade because it offers better click, a different percussion, more editable leslie mike placement , and it's FREE . I bought the C2 2 and a half years ago because the distortion and chorus were exactly what i was looking for in all my earlier clones. I had no reason to upgrade. It was THERE !
If you want to go ALL out, etiher get a real Leslie, or look into the Speakeasy AMA pre-amp to use with the leslie. the AMA allows you to get the Jon Lord ( smoke in the water) overdrive sound. You may also want to experiment with different drawbar settings besides 888000000 or 888800000 to get that sound. One good one is 686100457, with or without C3, and overdrive set 2 oclock. The C2d offers numerous other features that justify the upgrade. However, down the road, i strongly feel that the original C1 & C2 will be sought for the sound that they offer.
