Reading the description at the Clavia website, it seems that the only difference between S/M/L acoustic piano sample sets is the string resonance. Do i understand this correctly? I've got an NE3, which does not support string resonance. So, is there really any reason to load a sample other than "S"?

I used to own an NE3 and had a similar thought. This is what tomas Johansson from Clavia replied:


Electro 3 and Stage Classic users can decide if they need the "pedal
down samples", by choosing Sml, Med or Lrg. They will not sound the
same. The Sml version has none of the pedal down samples, the medium
has them in the "middle section" of the keyboard. and the large has
these across the entire range.

Hit a key and hold it down and listen to the decay. Press the sustain
pedal, hit the same key and you'll hear the "acoustic space" that the
pedal down samples creates.

The previous v4 sounds had these pedal-down samples in the middle
range (except for the XL versions, full range).

I'd go for the Med size unless you find these pedal down samples
muddying up the sound for you...



So there you go: there IS an audible difference. The acoustic space is very clear in the highest octave.

I just go NE4dSW61 and I already have NS2SW73. Both at great instruments. It's a bi weird the NE4dSW61 has less memory then NE4SW73 and NE4HP73 but it has physical drawbars which is great. NE4 has only 1st gen of string resonance which is alo a part of NE3. That 1st gen string resonance is only for pedal down samples. I chose to go with MED samples. It might sound weird but NE4 piano section seam to sound better then NS2. Not sure why.
