Hi there,
I have just bought the ND2 and never messed around with MIDI before, and I'm lost. I want to create what ND2 calls a Program that triggers some of the percussion sounds I have in my Roland TD-20. I hook up the output of ND2 and the TD-20 to different channels on a mixer, and I connect the 2 modules with my MIDI cables. Now I can hit an ND pad, and that triggers the sounds that I want in the TD-20. The big issue is that for every Program on the ND2 that I use, I always also trigger the sounds in the TD-20. The only way I have fond to get around this is to turn off the MIDI. But clearly this is way too cumbersome playing live.

Is there a way for me to have that single Program trigger stuff only in the TD-20, and when I change to another Program, I get the sounds produced locally in the ND2?

Unfortunately, MIDI settings cannot be set per program, ...
so they remain the same, triggering the same sounds of your TD-20 regardless of the program you select on your ND2

I'm afraid you will have to change programs of both units, for each song,
Make silent patches on both units, etc

that saves me chasing something that's impossible.

Most of the percussion sounds I need are actually more or less already among the factory sounds, at least if I just shuffle and tweak them a little. The only thing I really miss is something that resembles chimes. Any ideas how I might create that sound?

what kind of chimes? The ones you can individually play?
If you have OS2.24 installed try FM synthesis, you probably don't need a noise component, so set mix to just tone,
play with spectra, timbre, timbre decay, and decay settings, when you are close to something you like copy the sound to all channels, then select all channels for group edit, then set a scale (shift-pitch) and fine tune all parameters (in group edit changes apply to all channels selected) until you have a nice sounding set of tubular bells, chimes, or the like!

Good tip, I'll certainly have a go, but what I'm after is more of sound where I make a single hit on a pad, and the sound is like when you swipe the whole row of chimes. I had something like it on my old SPD-20 (quite crappy sound that was, though). Here is an example http://www.thomann.de/se/meinl_ch27st_chimes.htm. There is a button on the page where one can play a sound sample.

I was afraid you meant that type because that is not possible with the ND2
either get a small sampler, a real LP or Meinl chimes set, or buy some tubes and replicate it
