Hello,
I'm curious if the Voice Expansion Board is standard issue on the Nord Lead 1 Synth. Do most have them? I know on the rack some have the expansion and some don't. Most Nord Lead 1 synths I see all seem to have the voice expansion board. Thanks.

Hi Ricoche,
No, not standard issue, but considering that the NL1 is 4-voice without and 12-voice with, many many people opted to buy the expansion kit.

It was an optional extra at the start of the production,I've had my original NL new since 1996(still own it today),I had the expansion fitted to mine,whether later into the production Clavia fitted them as standard who knows,but the NL2 came out in 97 so suspect most people just went for that given it had more to offer,it's probably why you see few NL1 come up for sale,in less than 2 years it was superceded either that or owners like myself are not keen to part with it.
I think Clavia still had the EPROMs to upgrade them up until a few years ago,I'm sure I seen them advertised somewhere,whether they still have them now or not who knows,they have cropped up for sale on a well known auction site before.
