Newbie on Lead 2, please help to transfer syx files from mac

Post by tyleresco »

Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie on Lead 2, just bought a used one and want to replace the sound banks-libraries, i need piano files and found this: http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/02 ... ianoOrgan/
Please help me to transfer those files from mac to nord, step by step because i'm absolutely new on this.
Thank you very much.
I'll appreciate your help a lot.
My best,
Tyler

Those are system exclusive files. You need a sequencer that can read and send the file over MIDI, or something like (for linux) http://sourceforge.net/projects/sysexxer/
Sorry I do not own a mac, so I can't say what might be available for your OS.

For a Mac I'd recommend SysEx Librarian. It is free and easy to use.

http://www.snoize.com/SysExLibrarian/

Start it up, drag the sysex file(s) you want to send to the window, pick the file and click Play.

Making a backup of your Lead 2 is also easy to do; click on Record Many in SysEx Librarian and them choose Dump All (check the manual for the Lead 2) to send all your sounds as sysex data to your Mac.

Before you start sending new sounds to your NL2, I really recommend you make a backup first.

You need a midi interface to connect to the nord lead 2. Something like this would do the job: http://www.thomann.de/se/thomann_midi_usb_1x1.htm
Good luck!

I've used the E-Mu Xmidi 1X1 and it always worked great for me. These days I want a bit more MIDI ports though

Are you sure the MIDI cables are connected correctly? MIDI IN on the Nord needs to be connected to MIDI OUT on the Mac (well, on your MIDI interface). On some cheap (chinese) MIDI interfaces the cables have been labeled incorrectly, so try swapping them.

If you know you've got the MIDI leads connected correctly (for example, be when you set SysEx Librarian to record and actually get data when you dump sounds on the Lead), try lowering the transmission speed in SysEx Librarian. I've had situations where SysEx data was coming in faster than my Lead could process it. You can set the delay between messages in the preferences (see below).
