Sampling VSTi's on a Mac

Everything about Nord keyboards in general; which one to choose, the sound manager, sample editor, and general discussion about the sample and piano libraries.

Sampling VSTi's on a Mac

Post by Mitchell »

What do you guys use to sample VSTi's on a Mac? I was using Samplit for awhile but after a recent omnisphere update, it doesn't seem to open in the application anymore. Very sad.

in logic. just record a couple of notes as one long wav - > import wav in nord sample editor -> finds automatically the starting points of different notes - > little tweaking - > done.

I would put the notes I need (with automation, if needed) on the 'piano roll' in Ableton Live, with each note starting in a new bar. Then I'd record that and split the resulting recording in separate files one bar in length, each with one note. I'd name those based on the note (i.e. something like c4.wav) and drop those on the Sample Editor, which would place them in the right spots (based on their names).

Since I usually only sample a limited range of the keyboard and don't want the lowest and highest sample to be 'stretched up' and used for the remaining keys, I usually just put a 'silent' sample immediately next to it, so that those silent samples get used for the range I did not sample.

I think my 'silent sample' has about 1 second of very low volume noise. I had issues with the sample being to small (Sound Editor wouldn't except it) and this worked fine for me.

I must say Thom's method seems quite a bit more efficient. I haven't had a Nord capable of using samples for about 2 years now, so maybe the Sample Editor couldn't do what Thom describes back then.
