Piano 2: Not hearing samples

Hi members of the forum:

I don't know what I did, but I'm not able to hear the Sample Synth sounds on my Nord Piano 2. I can only hear sounds coming from the Piano Section.

Of Course, the Sample Synth button in "ON" ant its Volumen Level Knob at 10.

I change to different programs that contain samples and I just hear the "Piano" sounds.

What Could it be?

Best,

Marcos

1. Turn off the piano section, and see what happens. Some of the samples are quite soft and subtle.
2. Re-load samples from factory settings -- they might have gotten corrupted (very unlikely, but it's a possibility)
3. And, as you point out, crank up the sample section to 10.

Other than that, I have no idea what could be causing it other than perhaps something broke :(

Dear cphollis,

thank you for your answer.

I did what you have said: I first, did a back-up file of my custom program sounds, and then installed the factory settings from the factory CD-ROM.
After 18-20 minutes, of cleaning and downloading, the process ended and now I can't hear ANY of the sounds!! Neither from the Piano or the Sample Section :(. Now I'm restoring again from my custom sounds, to see if I hear my Pianos again.

I'll keep you posted.

UPDATE: I restored my custom sounds successfully, and now I'm back at my starting point: Piano sounds, but no Sample Sounds. I'll download the Factory Settings from Nord's Web Page, instead of installing the CD-ROM one.

UPDATE 2: I downloaded and installed the Factory Settings from Nord's Web Page, and the same thing happened: In the screen, the factory sound names appear, but you can't hear any sound coming from the Piano partition as well as in the Samples partition. So, in order to have my piano sounds backĀ”, I'm going to restore once more to my custom sound backed-up sounds. I will contact Nord Support if there is any other advise in the forum.

Thank You!
I'll keep you posted.

Does anyone knows, what is the average time, in a factory settings restore procedure?

On the Stage 2 it was about 15 minutes, but that's got a bit more memory I think. Probably somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes.

Something is definitely not right -- either with your Nord or the external environment.

yes. Very strange that even the factory Settings are not working!

When I was restoring, backing up, etc,. sometimes the aprox time given by the Sample Manager went to 50 or 60minutes, and in two attempts of restoring it got frozen, and had to re-start the process from 0.

I also thought that was a USB 3.0 issue with the new MacBook Pro's. (I have an issue with a MOTU MIDI Matrix USB Interface: it sends incorrect program changes to my keyboards). So, I have to use a USB Hub, to force a signal conversion from USB 3.0 to USB 2.0. Now, I have to carry a USB interface until Apple and/or MOTU solves the issue.

So, the last time I did the restore, I plugged in the USB cable from the Piano2 to my USB Hub, to see it was a similar issue, but, same thing happening here..

I wrote to Nord Support, and hope that they could come with a solution soon. I'm deeply worried about this. It's like having a Nord Piano 1 :?

I'll let you know if Nord Tech guys find the solution.

I am no expert, but my next immediate step if I were having the problem is to remove USB 3.0 from the setup entirely, and try again. Find an older laptop, etc. Don't rely on some USB hub or the USB spec itself to handle the down conversion properly.

You could possibly be overrunning the Nord on data transfer rates, and -- while there should be some sort of error-retry protocol or checksum support for the transferred file -- maybe it's not working as anticipated. The fact that your transfers stall and have to be restarted lends credence to that theory. Find yourself a different USB cable as well if you can.

Your shiny new Mac was designed much more recently than the NP2.

Dear chopplis,

I received a very accurate response from Nord Tech Support.

My Piano2 hardware, is fine. What was causing the problem, was somewhere between the Piano2 and the piano Bench: ME!!!!!

It is very shamefull for me to say it, but I prefer to assume this forum's bulling and your anger, and save someone else peace of mind.

From Nord, asked me if I had some Volume pedal connected to the Unit. And, it was true: I have an Expression Pedal, to control some virtual sounds from my MacBook. The thing is, that I forgot that months ago, I assigned that the pedal to affect ONLY the Sample Sounds and not the piano Sounds.

So...all that I should have done, is remember to have an Exp Pedal connected, press it down, and Yahoo!! The Sample sounds came to life again.

The reason that I was hearing No Sound from my Samples partition AND my Piano partition when restoring to factory settings, is because for default, the EXP controls both Sound levels. And of course, my exp volume was all the way down.

Ok, now I'm ready... Hit me on my head with a Casio portable keyb!!! :P

Thank you again for all your "unofficial" support :)

All My Best!

No worries -- yes, that would explain things, wouldn't it?

Glad you got your problem sorted out. And you're not the only one to suffer from a "pilot error" like that.
