Greetings,

I am looking for a good solution for recording my Electro 4 directly to my macbook air. I will be recording solo keyboards with maybe some backing drum tracks. So far I have identified the Tascam 144 MKII as a cost effective solution. I currently have a mackie mixer that I output through. Does anyone have other solutions or reasons why the Tascam is not a good choice.

The cheapest solution would be just a cable to go from your Nord to the line-in on your Macbook Air (if it had any).

Note that the Tascam US144 MK2 is pretty much a Tascam US122 MK2 but with an additional digital (SPDIF) in and out. If you don't care about the digital part, you might as well get the US122 instead.

I don't have any experience with Tascam, but the thing looks pretty sturdy and as far as I know, they have a pretty decent reputation.

I have a cheap Behringer Xenyx 302 USB, which can also be used as a USB audio interface. For the price (40 euro) it is pretty good.I also have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 which is pretty nice; the software is certainly better than the Behringer (which didn't include any, which could be good since you're not paying for software you don't need). If you need recording software, the included version of Cubase that comes with the Tascam might be nice (provided it runs on a Mac). Alternatively, you could also use Audacity (which is free) and perhaps Garage Band.
