newbie midi question

Hi,
Yesterday I connected via MIDI for the first time my Nord Stage EX 76. I used a 2x2 MIDISPORT aniversary edition on a Mac Book Pro(Mac OSX 10.6.6) with Logic 9.1.3 and other synth softs (M-Tron Pro, Pianoteq). In Audio Midi configuration tool i routed a midi cable from nord(out) to midi device(in) and another midi cable device(out) nord(in). When I'm using the keyboard as a controller of a software synth like the M-Tron in stand alone mode, i can turn midi local off or just turn off any instrument on the panel a / b, without even turn on the extern section. When i turn on the Extern section, while monitoring MIDI messages with MIDI Monitor software i found that when playing any note on the keyboard on the panel A(channel 1), the extern section sends the same notes through channel 14, generating duplicate notes, is this correct?. Channel 14 is default for messages from the Extern section or do i have to put it in the same channel for the Panel A(channel 1)?
thanks in advance.

That never happened to me, but what might be happening (although I am not totally sure) is that t Panel A´s sending control information on channel 1, but the key information on the extern section is set to channel 14. You should change that either to send on all channels or on only channel 1. if you are only using 1 softsynth at a time, then it might be easier to put it send on all channels as it might turn out easier.
Again, I am not a midi expert and the only thing I do is chain the mopho to the NS just for not triggering, which I do so putting channel 1 on the Extern section.

Thanks Gustavo,
But what I'm looking to really do is for example: use the nord stage piano in panel A spliting half of the keyboard
to the piano and the other half for a softsynth. Yesterday, when I tried, I still can not isolate the sound with the softsynth and the
piano. the softsynth overlaped the piano. I'll try again today. But well, i'm just beginning in MIDI.
thanks

hi Rodaguilera.
first of all, welcome to this forum! hope you will enjoy it! :-)
second. if you're not familiar with MIDI at all i recommend you to start reading the earlier threads about MIDI on this forum. i have written several posts which may be very helpful for you. search for keywords "MIDI" and see what comes up.
after that, read the manual. i don't mean to be rude, but since you're going to work with MIDI you need to learn which settings can be made in the different menus, SYSTEM MENU, MIDI MENU and EXTERN MENU.
we will be here for you to help you out when you're lost!

I have been confused many times about all things MIDI with respect to the Nord Stage and I've been using it for years. Maybe it would be helpful if someone can direct me to a post or make a new post explaining the thinking behind why we have a MIDI button for piano/organ/synth AND we have an Extern section. To my mind anytime you are using MIDI you are using an external sound source. I have always used a rack for horn sounds etc. and I use the Extern section for that. What would you use the MIDI section for?

hi scottjoyce,
what do you mean by "midi button for piano/organ/synth"??
there are MIDI settings for each instrument section if that's what you mean?
these are for using the NS as a SLAVE.
the external section is for using the NS as a MASTER.
because of all MIDI questions on this forum i have decided to write a document about how to use th NS together with other devices. but i have been delayed because of other musical projects. hopefully i will have it done during next month.

Yes, I meant exactly what you described and thank you very much for the info. I see now it is for when the Nord is the slave. I'd love to see your midi applications project when you are done.
Thank you,
Scott
