Hi All,

Newbie C2D owner - newbie clonewheel of any kind owner, actually.

Just curious to know what adjustments anyone has made to make the C2D rotary sound more realistic. I'd rather not resort to a Ventilator right now.
To my unsophisticated ears, the fast speed sounds a little too fast, and it ramps up a little to quickly. What other adjustments would you make?

I've read all previous posts but just wondering what others have come up with more recently. Please comment.

To adjust the Leslie sim go into the "Sound" menu, where you will find adjustments for top and bottom speeds, ramps, and volume ratio.
Check your manual for the specific directions for the C2D.
Are you playing into a board, or playing through amps? I do believe the "sim" effect will sound better in stereo, with two discrete amp-speakers.
I have not had much luck with Leslie sim through one keyboard amp.
Hope that helps. But why not get a real Leslie for your C2D?

I agree with Mooser. Sims are ok but a real leslie is a revelation.

The real leslie is a revelation' but the internal sim is excellent when recording direct onto an sd card for transfer to a marketable cd. I've done it 4 times, & i know that I liked it ! Also, the internal sim sounds good when running thru a PA.

I might mention (try and stop me) that I read that Jim Alfredson (ofhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vn0lxsa0ATkOrganissimo) uses his Leslie switch to operate both his "sim" and his real Leslie. The real Leslie is for the stage, and the "sim" goes to the PA.

And I could timidly suggest (shoulda stopped me the first time!) that if I am not mistaken, a new "Vent" will run you, in the US, about what you could buy a vintage Leslie for, more or less. I mean, just saying.

And as far as "keyboard amps" go, I'd just get a good pair of powered speakers. Everything else you need (volume, equaliser, effects) is right there on your C2D.

At present, I am working on a "turbo" or "supercharged" Leslie. The rotating assemblies (horn on top, rotor on bottom) are coupled with a fan, which pumps air through the cabinet and out the vents, which are specially finished to create vortexes as the air flows through, with the sound. Don't tell anybody, it's a secret.

I have a relay box with three relays trigger from one switch.
So i have run two leslies and the internal sim at the same time.
And I always send the sim outs to the house PA rather than taking the chance on someone doing a bad mike job.

As a matter of fact he describes, in his post on his rig, a box built for him which functions just like your's. And says the exact same thing about the sound man! Prefers the "sim" output to the chance of a badly miked Leslie. The article is at his site. Did you happen to listen to the "Tenderly - Alt. Take" I linked? He flips the Leslie switch very well, especially through his solo.

BTW, maybe you have mentioned this before flmc, but which of the Nord internal sim choices do you use, when you use sim? Which model, which speeds, upper and lower? (And are they at the same numbers on the C2D "sound" menu as they are on the C1&C2?)

But...

I'm trying to find out what settings people are using to make the C2D's internal sim sound as realistic as possible. I'm sure a real Leslie would be great, but for now it's not in the cards. I gotta make due with the internal sim. What kid of ramp speed do you use? What specific things need to be adjusted from the factory setting?
