sorry if i missed something, but have any of you geniuses sampled or created the Synclavier FM Gong for the Michael jackson "Beat It"
intro? it's supposed to be a stock patch on the Synclavier, but i did not see it here or in the Clavia sample library.

Hi.

I played "Beat It" once but I just sampled each note from the song intro. It worked quite well for that song, but wouldn't be very usefull for playing other stuff.

There are also some gong-like FM-algorithms on the Nord Stage. Algorithm 5:1 I think. It should be possible to create something fairly close with that one.

thanks ! i should have mentioned i have the Electro 3/73....will probably just have to sample the record into my Triton Extreme.

I found the sample i used. Actually I played it on an Electro 3 too.

The sample is looped at the end. But if the song is played in about the same bpm as the original no one will notice

Hopefully someone will provide a sample of the original Synclavier patch some day.

this is my version of MJ Beat It intro sound with a smoother loop, a little bit "punch" more.
On C5 I've added the drumloop too.

the original sample is actually in the Yamaha Motif soundest.. I also have the synclavier sample here somewhere.. It was on the demo disk for the instrument back in the day..I'll try to upload whichever one I can find this weekend...

Here's something I whipped up from the demo 45.. I just took the last note and sampled it in.. It's the longest.. Add plenty of bass EQ and play octaves.. The Original phrase was in Ab, I believe the MJ tune was VSO'd down to the key of G, which is one reason it's a bit more fat. I'll include the entire demo phrase, so you can see, they just copped the entire phrase of the demo 45.. made from the wave file of an mp3 of the original 45 record... it's got some wear on it...But it will work fine live.
