On the run sequence on the Nord Stage

Post by Gustavo »

Yep, all done using ONLY the Nord Stage´s synth section.

here is the vid:

What I did is using the lfo a cyclic manner, i could make it act as a pseudo-sequencer, which just makes the Nord stage a tad more flexible.

Pros: you get a small, hand inputed sequence
Cons: you must get it perfect, increasing tempo slightly destroys the melodies, decreasing tempo WILL destroy the sequence.

Just for your leisure :P

KUDOS!!
Now that is really a great usage of the (said to be limited) Synth engine of the Nord Stage!
But how do you let the sequence go on and on (AEG Release=+infinity??) while playing the crazy lead lines at the end? Switching Panels??

IMHO the problem with the LFO is that it is hard to change the speed while maintaining the shape of the form (triangle or Sawtooth) unchanged by turning both potis at the same pace.
Anyway, would you mind putting the patch up here? Would love to try it out!!
Great playing btw!!
Cheers
Johannes

Yep, switching panels!! People say the Nord Stage´s synth is limited, I say they haven´t thought all sounds well ;P

Ahm.... Stupid me I did not save the patch, all done on the live stuff and then I got to play some Dream Theater stuff, so i overwrote the performance. But it was based on a patch I previously made, so I should not have much trouble recreating it. I will definitely put it up later on the day (my day still has about 17 hours left ;) )

I also have more sounds that use the LFO to sound like a sequencer, although I am not the first one to think of doing something like this: http://www.sonicstate.com/articles/article.cfm?id=146

Although I did stumbled upon the NS´s pseudo sequencer by "mistake" I put the lfo in the cyclic mode, attack on fastest, decay at about half, played a polyphonic phrase and found out that it repeated the phrase.

BUT there is somehting I did not mention, I dunno if the video shows it, but doing what I did tends to leave a sort of noise level onthat patch and on other patches it sounded like you are holding a pad. Which makes it sound like two sounds at the same time but can be annoying if you only want the pseudo-sequence

Saludos,
Gustavo

Sorry about taking so darned long to upload the patch, but I am on finals and that means making silly final proyects in teams that never seem to work well. Today I finally had some time to sit down and put the patch on the computer.

check the sounds section, its pretty straightforward, all instructions are there and just watch the vid if you have any more doubts.
