C2 with eternal sustain

Hi folks.

I don't know if it is after upgrading to 2.00 but, this is a new issue to me:

Playing the C2 (sometimes a few notes is enough, and sometimes after spending some time playing) the sound of the c2 suddenly starts to be "frozen": It progressively adds "eternal sustain" to every key that I play. It sound like if a cat where sleeping on my C2 keys! In fact, the organ is still making sound while I'm writing this.

I have my C2 connected via midi to an Audio Firewire Interace. The first thing I thought, is that it is a MIDI problem. So, I pressed the panic boton on my software, and nothing happened. Then, I turned off my interface, but the sound is still there!

The only solution that I found to stop this, is turning it off and on again. I've been rehearsing with my band. We'll have a gig next saturday. I don't want this problem on stage!!

Please Forum guys, help me.

Thank You in advance.

UPDATE: this just happens in the Upper keyboard. And if I switch to the Pipe Organ, the problem is not present (because it doesn't have sustain). But then, when I go back again to the other sounds (B3, VOX, farfisa) there is no sound at all, But if a press the keys again, the "eternal sustain" remains. It looks sound like a midi issue, am I right? But how could I avoid this?

UPDATE 2: I went to the SYSTEM MENU on my C2, then selected number 07, which sets the Sustain Pedal ON/OFF, and changed it from ON to OFF. The eternal sustain is gone!!! (The funny thing, is that I don't have ANY sustain pedal connected to the C2). I will leave it in the OFF position, to play in a "Safe Mode".

Hi
It sounds like the C2 somehow have received a sustain pedal down message via MIDI, but not a pedal up. I have tried to reproduce this without success here, but there are so many variables, when external units and MIDI are involved.
Can you be absolutely sure that no other unit sent a sustain on message that somehow got routed to the MIDI of the C2? Panic on the software will not help, but Panic on the C2 should (Hold Shift and press the Pedal-Great Man button)

Send me an email to support [at] clavia.se and tell me about your C2 MIDI settings and what audio interface and application you use. I would also like to know if you have used the very same setup before, without getting this.

Have you checked the sustain pedal setting for normally open or normally closed.
If you use the wrong setting the system thinks the pedal is down even if it is not connected.

Thanks for writing. I checked that pedal setting, and it is on the "CLOSED" position (default setting).

Thank You for your reply.

I have the same feeling as you: somehow, the c2 is receiving some midi messages.

About the software, I'm using Mainstage 2.1.3. I have a Playlist, which gives program changes to my Nord Keyboards, as well as using Virtual sounds, using both of my Nords as controllers. Let me check ONE by ONE the sound setting of my playlist, and see if I find something strange. Other problem that just happened now while I playing, is that by some kind of magic, the DELAY turned to on. It seems that I have to check very deeply how my sounds and CC are set on Mainstage.

The thing is, that the sustain/delay activation appeared while I was playing (not changing sounds, or pressing any botton of my keyboard).

I will email you if the problem persists or found a solution by myself.

Best regards,

2xbasssist.

FINAL UPDATE: I solved the problem!!!!! The thing was, that I was using an external "drawbar" module (DB-1 from Ocean Beach). This module is connected to the C2 via I/O midi cables. This module has 2 aux midi, to connect to other midi devices, so you don't lose the midi ports. So, the MIDI connection chain was: The Nord C2 was connected to the DB-1 and then, the DB-1 connected to my computer. So, it seems that the DB-1 (that was in between the C2 and my computer) was not understanding correctly the info sent by the computer software, and sending bad midi signals to the C2 Keyboard.

How I solved it? I bought a MIDI 4x5 interface. I connected the C2 to one of the I/O ports of the MIDI interface and the DB-1 to another I/O port. Because this MIDI inferface works like a midi "matrix" I gave the instructions of link this two I/O. After doing this, no strange midi symtoms that I was experiencing like "eternal sustain", sudden "delay", "sudden change of drawbar settings", etc,.

Of course, all the C2D users, will never have this problem in their lives! ;)

Thank you to all the folks who read this article, and specially to the people who tried to find a solution.
