Wheel broke off C2 case.

Post by dlargent »

I bought a Nord C2 and Nord C2 case back in December. I have gigged steadily with it for the past 6 months, like maybe 5 gigs a week plus the occasional rehearsal. So the case gets used a lot.

About a week ago, one of the wheels broke off. The black plastic broke around the wheel assembly, but the wheel and holder were still intact. I glued it back in place using a good 2-part epoxy, but that repair only lasted for a few days, and then it broke off again.

Now I'm trying to decide what to do. I can:
1. Use the case without rolling it, just carry it using the handles. However, I hate how this makes my hand feel right before a gig.
2. Buy a cheap cart to wheel it on, but I really don't like those luggage carts. And I'm against adding new things to the rig that I have to carry to every gig.
3. Get the case professionally repaired, but it might be more cost effective in the long run to buy a new one, considering the zippers are already showing signs of wearing out.
4. Buy a flight case. Are there any flight cases out there with wheels which are recessed into the back edge of the case, rather than bolted on to the side? Also, is anyone aware of any Pelican-style molded case with wheels that would fit the C2 well, because I used to have a keyboard with a Pelican hard case and it was perfect- lightweight and very protective. I've checked the Pelican site and there doesn't seem to be any case that would be an acceptable fit.

Does anyone think that Nord would offer to repair my case for free or send me a new one? After all, they gave me an OS update to make my C2 sound just like C2D, and didn't charge anything for it!

I haven't figured out what to do. The rest of the case works ok, and I'm too poor to buy a new one for the convenience of having wheels. I think whenever the zipper breaks, I will buy a case with a 5-year replacement plan!

I wish they made a plastic molded Pelican-style case for the C2, those are great and really light

Get some styrofoam.
Make a mould roughly the same size as the old plastic wheel holder.

Go to a marine suppler and get laminating epoxy. And thin glasfiber fabric. 80 grams mm.

Laminate to 5 mm or more on top of the mould. When hack out the mould and take away the remnants with thinner.
Styrofoam wanisher if younpour thinner on it.
Replace the wheelholder with the new one.
