Nord Lead/Rack 2X update?

Post by nordik »

Dear Nord Forum members-
I have been interested in a Nord Lead for many years.
I am seriously considering purchasing a NL keyboard or perhaps rack, however I wanted to confirm some information first.
Upon review, I think that I am seeing that the current version sold in stores, is the 2X version? Is there another version?
I also saw the V.3 however I cannot find this available anywhere, leading me to believe that it has been discontinued.
Upon further review, I see that the 2X has been available since 2003? Does this mean that nothing has been updated in the NL series over the past 9 years?
I very much liked the signature/anniversary series NL with reverse keys, and saw that this was a limited run. Are any still available new by any chance (probably not but thought I'd ask).
If nothing has been updated in 9 years, I am sure that I will hear that it's a classic and doesn't need updating, but reviews show that patches are most difficult to categorize without an LED screen (numbers only).
I hope that I won't be flamed, as I do love the NL sound, and although I do not own one currently, I've played them on numerous occasions albeit never owned one.
I have many 88 key boards, and do not think that I need another, although the wood and stone mod and pitch wheels are just lovely on the keyboard.
If anyone knows of any updates coming around the bend for the NL, or thoughts on whether it's worth it to invest now in tech available since '03, I'd love to learn more.
Thanks again for any insight.

There were a NordLead, a NordLead2 and now there only is the NordLead2X

That would be the NordLead3, a total different synth and discontinued indeed. Only second hand, but rare.

The design dates back from around 1995. In fact it is the oldest synth still in production, which says a lot. It's popularity is only overshadowed by the Stage, which is present in almost every television show, at least, here in Europe.

As rare as the NordLead3. 300 were made and 299 sold in only 5 days. The last one is still in Stockholm.

You will find your way with it.

So you know the feeling of the keys. The Stick is out of wood, sure, but the Wheel is aluminum.

Waiting for it will result in never buying a new one... :D Clavia DMI is a rather small company, at least compared with Nippon standards and resourses are used the best way. The only tip of the secret I will reveal: every new member on the designing team have to study the NordLead first... The machine isn't dead yet!
