Stage 3 -88, I lost all midi send/ recieve capability. My stage 3 as a mother board, somehow quit sending ( and receiving) midi on extern. Sound like anything simple?

I'd start by swapping/checking the MIDI cables (if you have some other gear to check with).
If all cables works properly, then maybe start with the Global settings in the MIDI menu.

Thankyou, i've tried different midi cables, and cleaning the 5 din midi in/out jacks.. no luck. Because the entire midi extern section on my Stage 3 has crapped out, it's going in for repairs. Damn.

Have you checked if it still works over USB? What are your global MIDI channel settings and is Extern set to Global or Prgram.?

midi over USB? I thought USB was only for PC data dumps (OS). Is there a way to use USB to send midi data?

Yes MIDI works with USB, but it's limited and lacks zone and split point features and is always "on". I miss the ability to block MIDI send with a push button, ie, EXTERN OFF.

It might be worth testing USB-MIDI a little more. I am quite confident that DIN and USB MIDI share the exact same features and channel numbers on the NS3: Global MIDI (in/out), Panel MIDI (in), DualKB MIDI (in) and EXT MIDI (out) channels.

You should check and report all your MIDI menu settings (including if Extern is Global or per Program), as Fziegler also suggested, because USB and DIN MIDI on NS3 share the same settings and behaviour, so it could be just some wrong setting.

(reading the NS3 manual MIDI and Extern menu pages is also recommended, to know and understand all settings and that Extern works the same on USB and DIN as well, for example)
