Nord Stage Classic - Panel B Synth Vibrato from External MIDI Controller?

Post by [mda] »

Hi,

I've been using my Nord Stage Compact with a Roland PC-180 to control Panel B for nearly 20 years probably now. This is the first time I'm stumped working out my splits etc.

For Somebody Else's Guy:

I have:

Nord Panel A split: Acoustic Piano / Synth line (riff)
Nord Panel B (roland MIDI to Nord MIDI in) split: Electric Piano / Synth Solo

The Nord Panel B Synth responds to pitch bend but not modulation (mod wheel on PC-180 to Panel B Synth vibrato depth).

My keyboards are currently at the studio, so I don't have access to them... but from the manual:

"VIBRATO
Vibrato modulates the pitch of the oscillators to produce natural vibrato effects.
There are three basic methods you can use to control Synth Vibrato which is set using
the SELECTOR button in the Vibrato section:
• If Aftertouch (A.Touch) is selected you can control the vibrato by pressing down
held notes on the keyboard. See “About Aftertouch” on page 62.
• You can also control vibrato using the Mod Wheel.
• There are also three delay (Dly 1-3) modes which automatically activates vibrato after a certain
time for held notes. The difference between the three delay modes is the time it takes for vibrato to
activate; Dly1 is the fastest time and Dly3 the slowest. The basic Delayed Vibrato depth and speed
settings are set globally on the Sound Page - see “Sound Menu” on page 68."

SO... does this mean Mod Wheel on external controller KB too?

Is this possible? If not I can map my controller pedal to Panel B Synth vibrato depth as a workaround. Or last resort set a Vibrato Delay for longer notes. Anyone got a decent answer / approach?

TLDR; I need Panel B Synth to do this from my external MIDI controller KB:

Thank you!

It is possible but the External Controller has to send a MIDI CC1 (MW) on the appropriate channel (same as notes): what is the MIDI configuration on your NS?
