Hi, is anyone using the Bose s1 pro as an amp for a small setting, like jazz jam session, rehearsal or small venue piano gig with a singer? I would use it for Nord piano and electro 6D Any feedback on the Bose performance would be much appreciated, thanks

I see solo singer/guitarists using these, and they sound OK. They don't have the full frequency response of other speaker systems -- and it has a very processed sound to it. They don't get loud at all, so not good for most jam sessions and similar. The bluetooth is only for recorded music, you can't perform through it due to latency.

I think you could do a lot better for $700.

It depends.

For most people, a pair of 8" powered speakers on short poles works well in a wide variety of situations. There are many good choices, starting with the bargain Altos units and ranging up to a nice pair of RCF TT08s. Used gear made in the last few years is fine, don't go any older than that.

Use a small mixer to set gain, and you'll be able to get quite loud. How clear it sounds will depend on how much money you spend. I tend to ignore published "watts" specs as I've had several situations where lower-rated units outperformed higher-rated ones.

However, if I'm doing acoustic-level stuff in a restaurant or similar, I much prefer one of the single pole units (EV, RCF, Bose, etc.). You're playing in mono, but it fills the venue nicely in a way that a pair of smaller speakers can't.

I'm owner of two Bose S1 Pro and I'm really not satisfied with the piano sounds of the box. They are too resonant / booming at the mid-bass range and too little crisp in treble range. For other instruments they are mostly ok. E-Piano works better. I consider to sell them again.

Thanks for that. Is there a single speaker brand that you would go for instead of Bose Tay is also light weight?

If 'mobile' and 'battery driven' is a point, the EV Everse 8 may be fine for you. RustyMike uses them: viewtopic.php?p=168441#p168441

Can you be more specific?
Battery powered important?
Bluetooth important?
Sonic accuracy important?
Volume important?
What kind of venues?
What kind of material?
By yourself, a small group, or a full band?
