Alternatives to song mode (no external devices)
Hey gang,
Played a nord stage 4 and liked it a lot, the delays and verbs are a heap of fun and I love how much more I can do with the synth. Song mode is a deal-maker for me.
Have any of you clever cookies worked out a way to replicate this on the stage 4? I am vehemently anti-tech on stage as much as possible and so having something else to rely on to change patches is super uninteresting to me.
Thank you!!

Without any external device, you have to order your programs in sequential order. I believe this is the only way.
One easy solution would be to connect a WIDI Master to the NS4 and use a free MIDI app that has control change features from your iphone/androidphone/ipad via bluetooth.

If so the best thing you can do do is to work by organizing the NS4 programs across its Pages and Banks, using 1 Page per "Song" and duplicating Programs when reused on multiple Songs (exploiting Layer Presets to save the frequently used configurations for each section and recreate like Programs easily). Nord Sound Manager makes it quite easy to Organize programs, using DualViewfreakybeak wrote: ↑09 Apr 2025, 16:20 Hey gang,

PS: if I remember well this topic has been already discussed already a few times on NUF, a search may let you find more

Re: Alternatives to song mode (no external devices)
Hi Nordies,
I've played more than one decade with an NS2 - now with NS4, a song - mode would be nice but I even haven't missed it so far:
I played with 3 formations/bands, so I've backed up three banks and erased them.
Then I create my sounds (mostly with the rule "one program per song" - thanks to the layer scene II-button...). Before a gig (or frequently) I use the Nord Sound Manager and sort my programs alphabetically (similar like cookie) - then I don't have to bother if the songs are "mixed up" during a gig (because of the wishes from the audience or so...).
Cheers
Tim

Does a piece of paper and a pen count as an external device?

Re: Alternatives to song mode (no external devices)
Hi,
Someone has to break the bad news for you. If you are not ready to take the pain to re-organize the patches every time with the internal organizing function, you won't be able to achieve this without an external device.
But hey, the solution is simple, even if you're "anti-tech" on stage: you have your cellphone, and you'll most probably have it on you anyway! Connect it to the USB input of the NS, download the BandHelper or SetlistMaker App and you can use your phone as program switching device. You'll have to do the job once but when you're done, it's quite easy to navigate. I won't ever want to miss it. And you can do all the changes online (edit setlist, edit songs, etc... ) without the need to be over your Instrument the whole time.
So no need to use fancy iPads, Midi Buttons or the like.
