EEPROM update for NL2

Hi,
I just got a 1.06 (latest firmware) EEPROM chip for my NL2, but to be >74% sure: what should I take very much care of when installing it? How naive am I to assume I can take the old one out & put the new one in just like that? I couldn't find something on it in the user manual, nor did I find a service manual.
