Stage 4 hammer action keybed reliability ?
Hi.
Long time Nord Piano user here. I have played and gigged with the original Nord Piano (bought it in 2011) with great success and no problems at all. I consider upgrading to a Stage 4 73 with hammer action keybed (not the Compact). There seems to be a lot af worries about the reliability of current Nord piano/stage keybeds (Fatar tp/40), getting noisy and clanky. Is it something I should worry about ?
It seems to me that every keybed out there, regardless of manufacturer has its problems.
I own a Roland FP-90 with PHA-50 action, while lovely to play, unfortunately suffers from the dreaded sudden "loud note syndrom", which make it ok for practicing, but not usable for playing live. What are your thoughts about the reliability of the Stage HA keybed ?

Also your Nord Piano has/had a Fatar TP/40... (and mounted on the same type of metal chassis, so...)

I’ve had mine since September 2023, I use it almost daily, I take it on tour, and so far no issues at all.

Re: Stage 4 hammer action keybed reliability ?
Every iteration of the Nords seems to result in better keybeds. I think the NS4 weighted action is about as good as it gets on a machine like that. My NP5 action is lovely, as is my NS4C. Very reliable as well in my experience, with the #1 enemy being dirt, crud, spilled drink etc.
I think I have gear issues ....

I have my NS4 88 since it was issued and really use it a lot. No issues so far

Thank you for your feedback. Nice to hear something positive from satisfied users. What is your general piano playing experience on this supposedly lighter weighted action ? (-compared to the Piano-series).

Re: Stage 4 hammer action keybed reliability ?
I'm one of those who can't do it, but there are plenty of folks who are happy with doing the occasional piano parts on the NS4C (unweighted). I use a weighted controller below my NS4C, couldn't be happier with the combination.SorenP wrote: 02 Mar 2025, 12:43 Thank you for your feedback. Nice to hear something positive from satisfied users. Hi, I guess you are referring to playing piano on the Compact version. I would not be able to do that either. I'm curious about the weighted hammer action piano playing experience, are people generally satisfied on the long run? I'm very close to ordering a 73 key HA, primarily for playing in bands, doing a lot of rock'n'roll piano soloing...

Re: Stage 4 hammer action keybed reliability ?
I’m a piano player and I love my Stage 4 HA88 for piano playing. For me, it doesn’t need to be heavier. I love the fast, light action.SorenP wrote: 03 Mar 2025, 10:23 Hi, I guess you are referring to playing piano on the Compact version. I would not be able to do that either. Thank you all for your input, I guess I could benefit from a lighter piano action. My not so young hands and fingers would probably be happy in the long run!
