Hi All,
I am trying to organize my programs into what I would like on the Program Buttons 1-8. I had no problem getting "Royal Grand 3D" into button #1. However I would like to load "EP Nefertiti" into button #2 but I don't know how to get to the grouping "EP" in the organize utility. If someone could list a step by step I would be very grateful. I am still in the "I found it once - I know its in there" hunting around for Programs mode.
Thanks in Advance everyone.
Joe

Re: Noob Confusion
Hey Joe,
I'm more than happy to give you a hand in organizing. Seeing that you said this is a "noob" question, it may be safe to assume you have just acquired a your Nord Stage 4. First off, congratulations on your Nord Stage 4, a wonderful, beautiful purchase! — I got myself a Nord Stage 4 about 8 months ago.
What I am wondering regarding your question, is you say "I am trying to organize my programs into what I would like on the Program Buttons 1-8" and "I had no problem getting "Royal Grand 3D" into button #1".
The question I have for you is, are you speaking about when you're selecting a "Piano" from the Piano Section under "Piano Select" using the "Model" knob?
Or are you speaking about when you are selecting a "Program" using the "Program" knob"?
I think, because of what you said "However I would like to load "EP Nefertiti" into button #2 but I don't know how to get to the grouping "EP" in the organize utility" I believe that you are trying to do this organizing when you are selecting a "Piano" using the "Model" knob located on the "Piano Section".
Because of the way Nord organizes the pianos under the Piano Section, you use two controls to select a piano: In the "Piano Select" section there a button that allows you to select the piano "type": Electric, Upright, Grand, Clad, Digital, Misc; and then the "Model" knob to choose a particular piano from the type of piano that you have selected. The pianos from these sections cannot be combined. For example, you cannot move an Upright piano into the Grand type, or a Digital piano into the Grand type either.
However, there is a way to use Programs to do what you would like to do with the Program Buttons,
i.e.: [1] Royal Grand 3D [2] EP Nefertiti
For this discussion I will refer to the Programs as:
- The Letter = the Program Section (A - H) you are in.
- The First Number = Program Group Number (1 - 8).
- The Second Number = Program Number (inside the group) (1 - 8).
“Letter” sections (Program Sections) go up to “H” (starting at “A”) - i.e.: A:11, B:11, C:11, D:11, E:11, F:11, G:11, H:11.
All Program Sections (A - H) have 8 Groups of 8 Programs each (for a total of 64 Programs per Program Section (“The Letter”). Each Group starting with 11, 21, 31, 41, 51, 61, 71, 81.
Let’s take for example G:14. Notice the “Letter” “G”, the First Number “1” and the Second Number “4”.
This is:
Program Section: G
Group Section: 1
Program (inside Group Section): 4
You would have to use the "Program" knob instead to navigate, but once you're in a Program Section and Program Group i.e.: G:11 or G:14, or G:18, (the last number doesn’t matter on the screen for the Program Buttons to work as you want them to do). For example, if you have selected Program G:14, the red LED above Program Button 4 will be illuminated. The LED’s above the Program Buttons indicate the last digit in the Program - the “4” from G:14. That’s where the LED indication comes from. Program Buttons will relate to G:11 - G:18 if you have any of the G:1n Programs selected (these would be the storage locations inside the "Program Buttons" when any G:1n Program is selected).
[1] G:11 [2] G:12 [3] G:13 [4] G:14
[5] G:15 [6] G:16 [7] G:17 [8] G:18
So, what I am saying is, if you program your pianos into some empty program slots, you can use those program slots and then the Program Buttons will allow you to change pianos in the way in which you would like to using the Program Buttons.
In fact, this is how I have done it, for instance: for the grand pianos I have saved Programs saved using the pianos, and have some custom EQ settings for each one program/piano. It is only the Piano Section I have turned on in each individual Program, but that allows me to use that piano with those EQ settings every time I select it. Otherwise, in order to get those EQ settings, I would have to select the piano from the Piano Select part under the Piano Section, and then go the Layer Effects Section and turn on the AMP SIM/EQ and then adjust the EQ every time. You could of course, in a program, adjust or add anything. Reverb, Delay, Modulation, etc. to your liking so you can hear it that way every time. Or work on tweaking them just the way you want them each time you play them to sound and saving them.
I hope this helps and isn't too complicated to understand.
Once you have a good understanding of how the Nord stores your sounds, and how the organization works, it really makes a lot of intuitive sense how to use it, and where to use what and what for.
I'm happy to give you more detailed instructions should you require them, but I would suggest you first giving trying to create a program by yourself (find an empty program slot and have at it, select a piano, use the red store button, maybe have a little peek at the manual), so that you may familiarize yourself and practice how to do it.
You don't have to take that suggestion at all however, you can just ask, and I'll be happy to post a detailed explanation of how to create a program and get your Nord set up the way you would like.

Re: Noob Confusion
Norte - it is a piece of cake to move things around in the Sound Manager on your computer...
And very easy to choose an SAVE your favorite 8 programs as LIVE 1-8 - however you lose the visibility of the names.
which begs the question - why in the heck can't the second row of the display allow me to SAVE a user name for a LIVE program when that ro of characters on the display is just sitting there BLANK right now.
I spend my money, make cool sounds...and still end up shaking my head...
and NS4 OSC Control of Digital Waves remains unimplemented...NS3 has it...son of a gun...
