Background Noise - Eps Samples. Help!

Post by Manuk »

Hello, a few days ago I bought a Nord electro 6D 73. Electric pianos have a background noise that when you put on bright or Dyno equalizations it becomes very loud. I leave you 3 examples that I recorded. Is this normal for Nord samples? Or is my keyboard defective?
Listen preferably with headphones.

Recording parameters:
* Ballad EP 2 - EQ Bright.
* Wurlitzer 2 + Dyno1 + (Eq + 5db high).
* EP9 Stockholm - Dyno1 + (Eq + 5db High).

Sorry for my bad English.
Thank you

Hi,

you are right, I listened to your examples and hear that background noise. It's something like a constant hiss or so, very much on the ballad EP and the Wurlitzer, not that much on the Stockholm but also audible. I never heard this on my NS3 but I also do never play through headphones, just amplification and most of the time with my band when you anyway not notice such kind of noise or artefacts. I will check it out on my NS3 with headphones connected as soon as I get back to my studio end of thisweek or early next week, will let you know if that happens on the NS3 as well.

How did you record that exactly? Just to be sure the problem is not maybe on the rest of the audio chain (cables, soundcard, etc...)

Hello. I recorded it with a Presonus Studio24c interface in Logic Pro. In any case, that background noise can be heard with a headphone connected directly to the Nord. Noise is not constant appears only when the sample is played.

Recording parameters:
* Ballad EP 2 - EQ Bright.
* Wurlitzer 2 + Dyno1 + Eq + 5db high.
* EP9 Stockholm - Dyno1 + Eq + 5db High.

It would be great if someone can compare what I recorded with the samples from their nord.

Can anyone compare the sounds on your keyboard? It would be very helpful to me.

Thank you.

Bright and dyno filters will boost the high frequencies, which is where hiss like this would be located. The only Nord I still have is a Wave 2 so I cannot confirm but I highly doubt your board is defective, most likely this is just samples which were not noise reduced by Clavia. I've heard similar on some pianos when using the bright filter though slightly less noticeable.

Hi Schorsch, were you able to check if you can hear the noise on your Nord with the configuration I posted?
Thank you

Hi Manuk,

yes I did check that and sorry for not having posted a reply then. From what I remember (that was more than 1.5 years ago) I could not hear a significant noise on my NS3, neither through external amplifications nor through any of my headphones - maybe just very little which was barely audible and not disturbing me at all
