Synth Sounds Stage 3 compared to Stage 4

I have compared several Sounds I am using on my Stage 3 to the same sounds offered for example by Synthonia...
The "Run like Hell" solo synth sound is much more aggressive and sounds better on the stage 3 than on the stage 4.
The sound I mean is the one here offers in the forum.
Also the Super Saw is sounding better and fatter on the stage3 to my ears...!?

Do i have to do more tweaking to schieve the same results or is the stage 3 simply sounding better than the 4 synth wise???

Would appreciate some opinions and experiences on that.
I cannot believe that this newer machine has not the same or better sound capabilities.

Thank you for lifting the curtain :)

This has been an anecdotal comment by a number of folks. The NS4 on paper should be more powerful, given its THREE synth parts compared to the TWO on NS3. Though a lot of the differences in sound would be apparent just using a single part on each. NS3 does have more to play with in terms of the oscillator settings.

I only have the NS3 and haven't done a side by side comparison. Here's a good YouTube video that dives deep into the Super Saw between NS3 and how to make the NS4 match more closely with the NS3.

I have similar experience with the Wave 2 compared to the Stage 3. Same sample has more power on the stage, more sterile on the wave.
Perhaps it has to do with the DA converter. Better / more accurate could mean more sterile.
Many people also prefer the electro 2/3 hammond sound better than later versions.

With some effects, slight detuning it is possible to make the difference between Wave 2 and stage 3 minimal, but I noticed this multiple times.
Not sure if others have similar experiences. I assume that the Stage 4 and wave 2 have similar DA converter and output stages

I seriously wonder what some keyboard manufacturers do when they make the new models sound worse or downgrade them? Don't they have an ear?

Hi Arni61,
its really funny because I bought the Stahe4 additionally to the Stage3. Surely it has a lot of enhancements concerning the possibilities, but the naked sy<nth sound seems to be better in the Stage 3.

The other engines are absolutely equal to my ears. Especially the Organ is totally the same. And when using the same Piano samples there is no difference in my opinion.

Every synth is a set of trade-offs.

There is one particular synth sound I *still* miss from my Stage 2, but a bunch of other synth sounds — especially samples — sound WAY better on my Stage 3 (Edit: than on the Stage 2).

I have had only passing experience with the Stage 4, but I assume it's going to be the same: particular sounds will work better on the older synth, and a bunch of others will work better on the new one.

Can you tell us the sound that you liked from the Stage 2? Please don't leave us hanging... 8-)

It was a really searing "Tom Sawyer"-type Moog synth sound that I've come close to, but just never got as cutting without losing body on the Stage 3.

I can't confirm that the NS4 sounds less "aggressive" than the NS3.

I did once a comparison of the pure saw waveforms of my former NS3 and the NLA1, because the little A1 sounds much buzzier than the Stage 3.
Fortunately the saw of the NS4 is as buzzy as the A1 (and the Wave 2). See here my comparison: https://www.norduserforum.com/general-n ... on#p169612

I'm actually using the analog waveforms in the synth section most of the time and they allow me to do these classic Moog-style lead sounds with an analog character.

You watched Alannis Morisette on Austin City Limits too last night? That Stage2EX getting the job done or what? The B3 was ripping pretty much.
