Nord Electro 2 constantly reboots

My Nord Electro 2 started rebooting when I went to any program other than the startup one, "A1". The last time time it happened, about a year ago, I fixed it by "initializing" the keyboard, erasing all patch data, by a combination of buttons being pressed. I discovered that many years ago when I put my binder of charts on top of the keyboard and found all patches erased.

This time, I couldn't remember how I reset it. It's now starting but now as soon as it loads "A1", the display goes back to "SE", and gets caught in a rebooting cycle.

Does anyone know the combination of buttons to push to initialize it or have any suggestions?

Please advise, thanks!

Might be time to let that one go out to pasture, with a nod for time well-served. It's 22 years old, which is several lifetimes for a digital keyboard.

22 years is a lot, but we have still some Yamaha DX7 and D50 having almost 40 years on them and still working fine (enough), so... it still worth trying to fix that NE2, imho :-)

Sure, and we have Fender Rhodes and Wurlis from the 60s and 70s going too. But those, along with the DX-7, are in a different league than the Electro 2. They are foundational instruments featured on hundreds of thousands of recordings, and each one changed the music and keyboarding world. Their sounds are uniques and immediately identifiable and characterize many, many classic song in many genres.

The Electro 2 is not one of those. Buy a new Electro.

Perhaps an inquiry to Nord via their support page, or reaching out to American Music & Sound, their US distributor can provide some insight.

If it's something a simple reset cannot address, you may want to look for a service center for repair. Beyond simple mechanical troubleshooting, I'm not inclined to perform electronic level repairs for fear of causing more damage. But that's just me.

Good luck! The E2 is a great instrument - that was my first Nord!

If you hold program 1 and 5 whilst switching the power on the Electro is put in a state ready to accept an os update. Not the same as initializing I know, but worth a try. I expect the initialization procedure is a variation of this.

It's also worth trying to reload the OS although you'll need a 32 bit PC or 10.6 or earlier Mac for this.
