HELP Nord Stage 3 - won't save programs (not memory protect)
Hi - I'm new to the Nord Stage 3, but I have a bug that I can't seem to figure out.
First - turn off memory protect
Second - create a program and store it
Cycle the power, the program is gone AND the memory protect is turned back on (it's not remembering that it's off)
I can save a program to my computer using the Sound Manager and restore, but cycle the power and it's gone. They show up in Sound Manager as being replaced, but with the power cycle and synchronize, they are completely gone, going straight back to the factory program list.
I have deleted samples from the library and replaced those with others - that seems to stay in memory. It's the programs that are not being remembered. PLUS, should the Memory protect "turn itself back on" with cycling the power. Not sure about this.
I had updated to 2.62 when I first got it. Since finding this, tried 2.52, and 2.24 and behavior is the same. It doesn't seem to be an OS issue.
I bought the Nord used and everything seems near perfect, except for this issue.
Any suggestions? Thanks everyone!!

How old is this instrument? Memory protect should not toggle when power cycling. This sounds like an issue with part of the flash memory-

As I said, bought it used, but it looks brand new. It still has the plastic on the screens. Marking on the front says V3.0. Seems like it's not old at all.
Was thinking to do a full factory install to see if it cleans anything up that is wrong in the software. Should I use the Sound Manager and do a "FORMAT"? There is not a lot of information about what this actually does.

I would probably try to re-install the latest OS version again and see what happens, maybe by using the manual troubleshooting update procedure. Your problem is actually not what this procedure is meant for but it does not harm either going that way. You will find the full update instructions on the page where the OS is availabel fro download, the troubleshooting option contains this procedure:
In the rare cases where the operating system in the Nord instrument have become damaged and the unit does not start properly, the Update
Utility will be unable connect to the unit. If this is the case, start up the Nord while simultaneously holding down the Shift and Store buttons
on the panel. This will start the unit in the Update mode, which makes it possible for the Update Utility to access and update the operating
system in a Nord that does not start properly.
Download the latest OS release again and unpack it. Start the Update procedure on the Nord as descibed above, then start the update utility which you unpacked.
Then go to settings and disable memory protection, and see if it remains disabled after you switched your Nord off and on again. If the problem still persists there seems to be a serious problem with the mainboard / flash memory as mentioned by DJKeys
There is no "FORMAT" option, all you can do is try to install a Factory Restore after you had updated your Nord again. The latest factory restore file can be downloaded here: https://www.nordkeyboards.com/sites/def ... v2.5X.ns3b
Also check the factory restore instructions: https://www.nordkeyboards.com/sites/def ... on%20C.pdf

Good advice, a fresh install is always a good idea.
Some of the early NS3s had an issue where their ribbon connectors would work loose, causing all sorts of random mayhem.
The fix was simple, open it up and snug down the connector(s).

I think I have gear issues ....

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I have some business travel this week but I’ll get onto these suggestions when I can and report back.
I’m also not afraid to open it up and check the cables. That’s also a great suggestion considering it did ship to me.
Keeping my fingers crossed!
