I found a Hammond M3 on trash day

Hello all,
I thought the days of finding a Hammond organ in the trash was long gone.
Not so much, evidently.

My wife and I were out for our morning walk, and what do I spy in the trash a couple of streets over?
A Hammond M3 with reverb! :o

So I promptly gets the truck and brings the organ home:

For the most part, it's all there (missing the bench, music rack, and power cord).
Unfortunately, if the service log is correct, the last time the tone generator was oiled was 1981
Date codes on internal components suggest the organ was made in 1960 and the reverberation unit was added after 1966

The tone generator is too tight for a proper start.
It was locked up tight initially.
However, I've spot oiled it and worked it around by hand.
It seems to be loosening up, but makes a gosh-awful squalling noise with frozen tonewheels slipping on their clutches.

Life is strange :wtf:
I now have a couple posts to go edit....
Things about never finding a Hammond for under $100, never owning another Hammond again....
You know, embarrassing stuff that I'll now have to eat my hat because of

I'll post back when it's working.
Cheers, Hanon

It's funny Hanon, I've been searching the classifieds on the web for an old and cheap Hammond knowing fully well that I'd never get one because I don't have the space or the muscles in my back to haul one.
I wonder what I would have done being confronted with a find like yours...probably the same thing you did!
We're such nostalgic suckers...

The only thing you can find on the trash here in Austria - if you're lucky - are old Yamaha Electones...

Congratulations!

I hope I'll have to take back my comment some time in the near future! ;)

Hey Hanon, I got a doubt...

Are you sure that the local band of old timers wasn't setting up for a outdoor gig? Maybe they were just resting their old backs over a cup of tea as you drove up and made their M3 disappear into thin air... :o :wtf:

Just sayin'...
