NS4: Unable to factory reset or load samples

Dear Nord User Forum,
I'm a newbie to Nord, my Church just got the NS4 last week, however, we've not been able to load samples, I saw a few posts with a similar error but no clear resolution.

Summary: Error: "download failed: CReqFileWrite failed: file write error (9)" in Nord Sound Manager v7.74 when trying to load samples or restore factory settings.

Background
1. Multiple samples were corrupted on turning the NS4 for the first time.
2. To fix this issue, I deleted the samples and tried to restore factory settings as recommended by a post.
3. During factory restore, the error "download failed: CReqFileWrite failed: file write error (9)" is displayed on Nord Sound Manager.
3. The same error pops shows on the Sound Manager when trying to load samples downloaded from Nord Sample Library.

PS: Memory Protection is Off

Technical Details
- Condition: New, bought on thomann.de
- Sound Manager Version: v7.74
- Instrument OS version: 1.14
- Computer OS Version: macOS Ventura - 13.4 (22F66)

All help is appreciated, thanks!

I would suggest to try with a different USB cable. If available try with a different computer/laptop.
If nothing helps talk to Thomann. Your're covered by warranty.

Same recommendation:

Memory protection off is good.
Trying another USB cable and/or computer is a good idea.
But your background info #1 doesn't sound good and certainly is a reason to contact Thomann without hesitation if the repair attempt doesn't work directly.

Thanks for your replies @FZiegler, @Klondyke77.

I have tried both a new USB cable and a different computer.

- New USB Cable - Same error
- Different Computer with macOS Monterey - got a different error: Download failed: CReqCreateFile: failed: FFSFailedToWriteFile (26)

I have reported the issue to Thomann, I am awaiting their feedback.

Hi, I just had the same problem on my Electro 6HP… its getting repaired as we speak but I wonder if anyone knows the cause for this sample corruption?? They’re changing the motherboard on mine, but I really don’t want it to happen again.

Hi Everyone,

Update:
The NS4 was replaced by Thomann, the new NS4 works: all onboard samples worked and I'm able to load new samples.
The returns was pretty fast, we received the new NS4 within a week.

Thanks for the support!

@alexkeys02, have you been able to resolve the issue with your Electro 6HP?

I am having the same issue. Only after a couple of months of having my Nord Stage 3, patches began to disappear. Every time I tried to do the factory reset I would get the same error message "CReqFileWrite failed: File write error (9)". Although all of my patches did not disappear at this point please continue reading...

Following the suggestion of Nord Tech Support, I reformatted all of my partitions and retried the factory reset. Unfortunately, I received the same error message and *no longer have any sounds left on my Nord*. The machine seems perfectly fine hardware-wise and it even interfaces with Nord Sound Manager (hence it being able to reformat my partitions). However, somehow trying to get instruments back on the Nord is now the bottleneck.

Has any found a solution for this yet? Nord Support, there must be someone who can help with this (a software engineer on your team perhaps) without having to send in a perfectly good machine.

Hi and welcome to NUF,

sorry but Nord support will not respond here (NUF is an independent users forum, not affiliated with Clavia).

You can do 2 things to solve your problem:

1) try with a different computer

2) contact your local Nord distributor or point of purchase directly (phone) to get support (as indicated on Nord website Support page, they are your standard primary support contact, even when you compile the form on Nord website it will go to the local distributor first)

Thanks for the prompt reply. I already tried a different computer. I will reach out to my Nord distributor. Thanks again!

For what it's worth, this is very reminiscent of the problems people were having with new NS3s. Ribbon cables could come loose if the package was handled roughly during shipment. Opening the case and snugging the cables back cured most of the ills. One poor fellow got three damaged keyboards in a row from the same shipper.

This may not be the problem here, but the symptoms would be the same.
