Converting Akai S1000 and EMU Sample CD-ROMs to a Nord

Hi everyone,

First post here, just signed up after buying a 2nd hand Nord Stage 2 76. I bought that one because I really liked the feel of the keyboard and it easier to transport than an 88 keys. I downloaded the White grand and Stockholm for the pianos, and programmed a M-audio Axiom61 to use it for Hammond sounds with complete control of the drawbars via its faders, and also for some clavinet parts. Really happy with it so far!

However, now comes the question. Since the machine also can play samples it would be nice to transfer some sounds from old samplers that I have to the Nord. Is there any program out there that can do the conversions? I could not find anything using the search function.

I know it is possible to do this manually by converting the Akai programs to WAV and loading it in the Nord sample editor, but that is a lot of work, since in the Akai a stereo sample consists of 2 seperate left/right samples, and everything has to be looped again as well..... Several sample translator software exists, but so far I have not been able to find one that supports the Nord.

Nope. no conversion tool available.
Only the Nord Sample Editor.

Thanks for your answer! I was afraid of that. Really strange though because the S1000 format became something of the standard sample format that lots of old machines and software samplers could read while nowadays Nord is a big player in stage instruments as well. The available sounds in S1000 format is huge.

You can use a 3rd party tool to generate .wav files from Akai format and then use them to create .nsmp using Nord Sample Editor

There are some info on the web (Search for "Akai to .wav samples converter"), like this thread I found on another forum https://vi-control.net/community/thread ... av.119873/, consider anyway that Akai samples may be multilayer (with velocity switching and/or crossfade) while .nsmp format is monolayer, so you can't get a 1:1 conversion in those cases.

There is also a Python and an EXE program that reads the loops inside WAV so you don't have to regenerate the loop in the Nord Sample Editor : nord-user-samples-nsmp-nsmp3-nsmp4-file ... op#p154233
