Transfer nord wave2 presets to stage4

Hi just got a stage4 im new to nord, but seasoned pros with stage3 are annoyed that you cant transfer programs / presets from stage3 to 4. Probably because its a different sound engine, however my question is can you transfer WAVE2 presets, programs to stage4?

File format looks different on wave2.

Hi,

You cannot transfer programs/presets across different Nord keyboards, in general and so also in this case: Wave 2 and Stage 4 are totally different, even just the synth section of NS4 is "derived from" W2, not a copy of it.

So basically the lesson to be learnt if you make your own presets write down every setting so they can be shared with the community. Seems a bit like going back into the dark ages with transitors and circuit boards. When a digital synth like korg or roland are totally inter changable, eg PCM, Zencore. I suppose thats the price to be paid for having new cutting edge synth engines. Lets hope it stands the test of time then and one would hope sounds better than stage3. So far my expectations are met but i am new to nord so can’t really comment whether the synth sounds are better. Pianos sound great though.

You say that other brands are "totally interchangeable)? I don't thinks so, not when you talk about different product lines, for example : can you load a Korg synth (say a Triton or King Korg) patch directly on a SV2 or a Grandstage? Or a full Fantom program in a RD88? (No, you can't)

Mmh. Maybe. But it's always been like that with all Nords. And often the same with other brands (as maxpiano pointed out). So 'seasoned pros' should be accustomed. Even if sighing or grumbling.

It's one of the reasons why I'm hesitating to upgrade. Even if it shouldn't be a major problem to recreate my twenty something programs. To me, the lack of song mode is more of an issue.

This is also why the Nord File Viewer is such a great tool for Stage 2/3 users !
Tedious and tremedous deciphering "bit by bit" work to understand the program structure. Then the CRC for the samples...
Anyway, it is the only path today to view the Stage 3 (or 2) program parameters and recreate them on Stage 4 for i.e. For free !

Deciphering programs for Wave2 and A1 could also make sense to recreate sounds in the synth of the Stage 4 and Stage 3 with some limitations.

Yes, bottom line the real limit is that the Nord Sound Manager is only a librarian but there is no editor (or at least visualization tool in NSM) to look at Programs parameters from any Nord keyboard, as the user-developed Nord File Viewer does for NS2/3.

But even if you could see all parameters of any Nord keyboard program, the translation from one model to another would be a manual process and with some study/adaptation needed (since all have a different architecture, to same extent and so also different parameters set).

Hi,

this is not true. I had several korgs and many Rolands - NONE of them could use the sound programmes of a predecessor. I wish that there will be an app for iOS or at least a PC software which used to be called Editor, able to build and read programmes.

I myself feel ahead of the need to replace my old korg X50 by a new korg kross 2, but the only thing that keeps me off is the sound re-making.

nords are easy to programme, so for me, as I moved from electro 3 to electro 5, it never was difficult to write down the old settings and redo them on the new board.

Cheers and good luck

There is a big advantage to learning how to program your keyboard. When I got my Stage 3, I put my Stage 2 side by side and programmed all the sounds I needed. I did the same thing when I moved from the A1 to the NW2. As Max pointed out, even with the File Viewer, the translation will still need to be tweaked to get the right result as hardware and firmware difference will always make a 1/1 program translation an estimate. You should look at this as a challenge and a learning experience rather than a shortcoming of the manufacturer, which it is not. Learning your instrument is the best way to confidently program any sound you need quickly-
