Midi a NS3 to a Yamaha s90es
I dont have alot of experience with Midi and am new to the Nord family. With that being said I was wondering if Its possible to midi the Nord to the Yamaha and be able to basically switch back and forth seamlessly on the Yamaha. What I mean is, is there a way to press a button and hear the Nord sounds and then push a button and use the Yamaha sounds and vice versa? Thanks

What I understand is that you want to play the Nord's keyboard and produce sound from internal and external sound generators. Should be doable in my eyes.
All you need is creating different programs on your NS3 - some with an internal sound section being active, some only with the Extern section being on. You will be able to set the Extern section in order to trigger different programs/patches on the Yamaha (with program change/PC and MSB + LSB).
Connect the MIDI out from the NS3 to MIDI in on the S90ES, set Extern MIDI Channel on the NS3 to the matching channel on the Yamaha (no idea how that is organised on the S90ES - cf. manual) and consult the S90ES manual in order to get the right PC/MSB/LSB settings for the wanted program. Dial that into a NS3 program's Extern settings.
If you switch from internal to external sound, the Nord should behave seamless meaning after switching, it'll keep a sound active as long as you keep the keys pressed. I have no idea if switching from one S90ES program to another will be seamless, too (depends totally on the Yamaha). And I have no idea what happens if you keep a key pressed while switching from external sound back to an internal sound: In the worst case, this stops transmission of MIDI commands which would mean that you get a hanging sound on the Yamaha as it doesn't get a note-off command.
Of course, you will need to connect the audio-out of both instruments to your monitors as the Nord will produce only its own sound and the Yamaha the same.

Re: Midi a NS3 to a Yamaha s90es
From when I checked this last (admittedly some time ago), the NS3 is good at remembering what notes are ongoing, so typically a MIDI Note off is sent for each note you had sounding on an external device when you let go of the keys also after switching the external section off. Same applies for sustain pedals.FZiegler wrote:And I have no idea what happens if you keep a key pressed while switching from external sound back to an internal sound: In the worst case, this stops transmission of MIDI commands which would mean that you get a hanging sound on the Yamaha as it doesn't get a note-off command.
So hopefully this still works as you'd expect (and similar to what happens when you change from one program to the next internally using seamless transition).
