Nord Stage 4 88 Key with Ext 61-key Control of Organ Section

Hi all - I'm looking at selling my SV-2S and picking up a Nord Stage 4 88-key.
My plan is to use one of my synths right above the Stage 4 (either 3rd Wave or Prophet Rev2) as an occasional keyboard controller for the organ section of the Stage 4... to get better organ feel with synth action keybed.
Questions:
1. Is anyone here doing this type of arrangement with Nord Stage 4 88-key? Any general issues?
2. Is the Ext MIDI Control Channel -> Stage 4 Section/Layer saved on a per patch basis, or is it more of a global control setting? I would still be mostly using my 3rd Wave for its synth sounds, but occasionally want to switch to control the Stage 4 organ section. I'm imagining I would probably turn down the volume on 3rd Wave to 0, and then pull up the organ level sliders on Nord Stage 4. Are there any issues with this? Or would I need to create a blank, no oscillator patch on 3rd wave and keep the volume up? (ie: would turning down the volume on my synth cause issues?) I'm just trying to envision the workflow and how quickly I could switch between using the synth normally, and switching it to a controller for Stage 4 organ.
3. I saw in another thread that maybe there's some bugs currently with the Stage 4 MIDI implementation for this type of workflow... are there still issues with CC controllers, or mod wheel, pitch or expression pedal? What's the current status of this? Does anyone know if there's a timeline for fixes?
