As some of you might have already read on this forum, the current version of Nord Sound Manager v7.70 has a bug where it will not convert a "user-created" NSMP file to NSMP4 format for the Stage 4 (works fine for the Piano 5) but will convert a user-created NSMP3 file to NSMP4 format. A few years ago while Nord was still working on updating NSM to convert NSMP files to NSMP3 format for the newly-released Stage 3, they released a stand-alone Sample Converter that could batch-convert NSMP files to NSMP3 format. For those of you not wanting to wait until NSM is updated, attached is Nord Sample Converter v1.12 (Windows version) to convert NSMP files to NSMP3 format, which in turn can be converted to NSMP4 format by NSM v7.70. I've found this app works great with most NSMP files, however I received an error for some. The post below suggests a decode error can occur if one is trying to convert a NSMP uploaded from a Nord keyboard using Sound Manager rather than an original created by Nord Sample Editor (see update). I was just curious of the app, so I've downloaded it to check it out.
I've got a version incompatibility message at opening the app:
FYI: I'm on macOS Monterey 12.6.3

That's a shame. The Windows version works fine on my laptop (Windows 10).

FYI: I'm on macOS Monterey 12.6.3

Probably that's a 32bit app so it won't run on a 64bit only Mac OS (i.e. from Catalina and on, last 32 bit compatible Mac OS was Mojave)

But you can setup a Windows VM with Virtual Box (or any other virtualizer) and run the Win version on it (I have a WinXP VM that I keep for running older softwares, when needed).

Great, I could at least import my old own beloved NS2 samples to NS4, installed the converter at windows, then took the nsmp3's and could most of them import with the soundmanager. Thanks for your help!! Tom

Great. For those that didn't convert, another member was successful renaming user-created NSMP files to NSMP3 and NSM converted them successfully. Hopefully the next version of NSM will not require a workaround.

Just summarizing what worked for me:

The first 50%:
I used the Sample Converter (Windows) to convert samples on my desktop (mainly from the official NORD sound library) from nsmp -> nsmp3. Next, I used the Nord Sound Manager to copy a nsmp3 to the NS4 and that program took over the NS4 conversion for me.


The next 45%:
I copied from the NS2 to my desktop all relevant samples. For these the immediate conversion in the sample editor did NOT work. However, renaming the file ending from *.nsmp -> +.nsmp3 did the trick for most samples. Next, I used the Nord Sound Manager to copy a nsmp3 to the NS4 and that program took over the NS4 conversion for me.

Still missing 5%:
It seems that now only "original" samples from the Nord Sound Library, which were brought back from the NS2 to Desktop will not allow a conversion. Will let you know.


Now, I "only" have to reprogram all my sounds...

I had no idea the converter could work with official Nord NSMP files as the converter was replaced with coding in NSM that won't convert samples from the Nord library. I'll have to try that. Thanks.

One of the bugs noted about the converter is that it worked on NSMP files created using the sample editor but did not work on the same samples after they were uploaded from their keyboard using NSM.
