NS4 KB touch - per layer?

Post by dannymo »

Hi, regarding the new stage 4 - does anybody know if the KB touch selection is per layer or applies to both pianos? The manual doesn't seem to specify as far as I can tell. thanks!

If the manual doesn't say anything, then the typical default answer is "no". I can't see it working that way as the feature is intended to adjust for playing style, not overall timbre.

I mean, I could easily make the case for it being useful - I like a firm touch for acoustic pianos and a light touch for electric. But as you say, if the manual doesn't specify then likely the answer is no. Can anyone who has received their NS4 confirm?

Actually I am not sure, how does it work on NS3? I think it is per-Slot (I don't have my NS3 at hand to check) so KB Touch can be different between Piano A and B (and if so I'd expect it would be the same i.e. per-Layer on NS4).

I had the Piano5 and I remember assigning different kbtouch values to each layer.

As KB Touch on the NS3 can be separately assigned on each Panel, I assume it can also be assigned per Layer on the NS4.

Yes on the NS3 the only parameter that's shared between Panels is detune, for obvious reason. I would be surprised if the NS4 made it global. I guess the manual being silent about it signifies it's obvious it is per layer.
