Nord Piano 5 - Are the effects independent per layer?
A few questions for the Piano 5 owners.
Is it possible to adjust the effects section independently per instrument layer? Let me pose a use case:
Say I'd like to layer two piano samples, but want to EQ them differently - one dark, one bright. Can the EQ section be set independently between the two piano samples, or is there only a single EQ setting per program? Is this the same for all of the effects? Is it possible to have two different delay settings on the two different sample synths? Are the timbre settings independent per layer?
If you focus on the a single piano layer, what panel settings are independent of the other piano sample layer?
Been looking for this in the manual and I don't see it smacking me in the face, nor a thread here on the forum that explicitly addresses this. Apologies if this has been discussed already.
Your wisdom and insight are sincerely appreciated.

Re: Nord Piano 5 - Are the effects independent per layer?
Hi, Mike-
This excerpt from the manual is indeed vague:
ACTIVATING EFFECTS
To enable an effect, press its ON/OFF button. The LEDs above the button
indicate which sound engine and layer(s) the effect is assigned to; PIANO
A and/or B or SYNTH A and/or B.
Without the instrument in front of me, it is hard to tell whether the Piano and Synth can have individual effects, or all effects are assigned to whatever layers are selected. I am almost certain that individual layers cannot have their own set of effects-

As a NP5 owner I can confirm that all effect (except the reverb) can be individually associated to any single layer. Only the reverb is global for all active layers.Rusty Mike wrote:A few questions for the Piano 5 owners.

You can easily see it by looking at the front panel:

Re: Nord Piano 5 - Are the effects independent per layer?
Thanks for the responses. Nordlicht, can the effect settings be different for each layer/sample. So can you have Chorus 1 for one piano and Phase 2 for the other piano at the same time, or is there only a single MOD2 setting that will apply to all the selected layers?
I understand that you can select with piano/sample will be affected, but are they independent from one another?
Thanks

Re: Nord Piano 5 - Are the effects independent per layer?
That's how it is, as far as I know, Nordlicht may confirm but you only have 1 Mod2 unit on the NP5, like on your NE6, they only added the possibility to address either or both layers of the same Section.Rusty Mike wrote:is there only a single MOD2 setting that will apply to all the selected layers?

I think it's useful to point out that a given MOD effect is assigned to pianos or samples, but not both. Can't have chorus on your pianos and horns. Can't have phaser and chorus, for example.

No, that’s wrong.cphollis wrote: Can't have chorus on your pianos and horns. Can't have phaser and chorus, for example.
You can apply every single effect (type) to every single layer, no matter if it’s a piano or synth layer.
Of course you can only apply one of the different effects of each FX group (MOD1, MOD2 etc.) to one layer but that is the only limitation.
Look at the picture above: there are 4 sources in each FX group available. It’s a kind of matrix.
Edit: you’re actually right!

Yes, I know what it looks like, it's just that you can't light all the buttons you want at the same time. I'll double check on mine and report back.

Re: Nord Piano 5 - Are the effects independent per layer?
Edit: This is what I was looking for! 4 independent effects chains was not an answer I could easily find and is indeed a game changer.Nordlicht wrote:Yes.Rusty Mike wrote:can the effect settings be different for each layer/sample.
You can apply every effect type (section) to any layer once but individually.
Example:
Piano Layer 1: MOD1 = Pan1, MOD2 = Chor1, AMP = Small, EQ = (whatever you like), Delay = Feedback1 + pingpong…
Piano Layer 2: MOD1 = Wah, MOD2 = Flang, AMP = Drive, EQ = (whatever you like), Delay = Feedback2, no pingpong…
And it’s the same with the two Synth layers.
In fact there are 4 totally independent effect chains available, one for each layer.
In this way the Piano 5 is more advanced than the Stage 3.
Thank you Nordlicht!
