Sound Manager and Multiple Nords

I added a second Nord to my home studio rig and Sound Manger could not find the new Nord Keyboard until I powered off the older Nord. Do I have this straight, Sound Manager can't manage multiple instruments? Seems odd.

That is correct. One instrument at a time, unfortunately.

Nord Sound Manager seems to be able to deal with multiple Nords - should of course as it's also meant to help transferring settings from one instrument to another.
But there is no way that NSM connects to multiple Nords at the same time. And there is no way either to actively select from a multitude of incoming connections.
I'm not sure about the caching function which is part of NSM - if it works with multiple Nords. But it should: Creating a bundle from a Nord will be much faster the second time as not all data is taken from the instrument itself - samples that already exist in the HD cache of your computer will be taken from there.
There was a short thread about that a few months ago, but I haven't found it on a quick view.

One Nord at a time, it's pretty easy that way.

I'm sorry, it's just poor software engineering. Essentially, if two machines are attached via USB you have a race situation into which keyboard is recognized.

It's just as designed.
Next to that, just disconnect one of the Nord keyboards while starting up Nord Sound Manager .

Or install a second instance of Windows in a virtual machine. Assign one of the Nord's to connect to this virtual machine, the other one remains connected to your host (your physical computer) and start Sound Manager on both your computer and the virtual machine. That's how I do it and it works just fine, but it's not really smart. It would be easier to have an option in Sound Manager to chose between different Nords simultanteously connected to the computer, and it should not be rocket sciencs to implement this since many software tools are working just like this.
Maybe they never took care of this since they did not expect anyone to own more than one Nord due to the price levels

Or invest in a USB switch with a toggle button ?
But I have also two Stage (2EX and 3), and never had to have 2 instances at the time.

1 copy of Nord Sound Manager to manage multiple boards?

Is there any difficulty in using one copy of Nord Sound Manager to manage the programs and sounds loaded on two separate Nord keyboards (and old Electro 3 and a newer Stage 3)? I am not wanting to exchange or share any programs or sounds across those two boards, and I understand that many of the sounds I would use on a Stage 3 would not be usable on an Electro 3. I am just seeking to use one copy of Nord Sound Manager, on one single Windows 10 computer, to be able to manage one board at a time, during those rare times when I wish to load a new sound onto one of them.

You can definitely use the same NSM to manage as many boards as you want, just one at a time meaning "only 1 can be connected to the computer" via USB at a time.
