Is it possible to turn down the string resonance on all nord piano libraries on an electro 6D, stage 3 and piano 5?

When I hear performances with these piano sounds, especially with the sustain pedal down, there is a huge warm piano resonance emanating, especially mid-low end

In my case, I prefer not to have this much and would like to know if its editable?

I'm not talking about reverb, just piano resonance.

I do not own a nord, but thinking of buying.

Hi and welcome to NUF...

Nord Piano samples cannot be edited, so if you don't want pedal down resonances you just install the SML (Small) sample sets of the pianos, which don't have pedal resonance samples at all and switch off the string resonance on Piano Section (of course) and/or set the "Piano String Resonance level" in system settings (see NS3, NP5 and NE6 manuals, freely available on Nord website)

Ok - just to doubley check, can I confirm its this part of the sound (see attached mp3 of a few seconds and note the tail end of the sound) that your saying cannot be 'lessened' in anyway?

The 'string resonance' section in the Piano Section you mentioned - this is just a on/off function, rather than a gradation?

Another question regards note release sounds - sometimes the release sounds are too loud for my liking - are these editable ?

As maxpiano already stated: You will need to verify which settings are possible on the different products. The Stage 3 has a per-panel setting for piano string resonance for each program (on/off). There is an additional setting for the string resonance level (-6..+6 dB) - but that is global, not per sample or the like. So, there should be a way to lessen the string resonance. I think it's a bit strong or bold in your example, but I usually disable it for band use (on stage).

There is no level control for release sounds on the Stage 3, but for pedal noise.

Besides, I highly recommend testing any instrument before buying.

You cannot judge if "sounds are too loud for your liking" in an absolute way based just on a recorded demo, don't you think? (maybe the recording is too loud or has an EQ you don't like or keeps sustain pressed too long, etc...? How can you tell, not knowing how it was recorded?)

Instruments, particularly expensive ones, have to be tested personally (as also FZiegler wrote) and possibly with equipment (headphones/speakers) as close as possible to what you plan to use, because both your touch and the audio chain can make a great difference in the sound generation and perception.

SOFT RELEASE
Activating SOFT RELEASE will add a slightly longer and less pronounced release to the piano sound. This is equivalent to what happens when you adjust the damper tension in an acoustic or an electromechanical instrument. The added release is individual for every note and responds dynamically to the force with which you play.

Some Piano types, such as Clavinets and Harpsichords do not support the Soft Release feature. In these cases the button will be disabled.

STRING RESONANCE
String Resonance refers to the acoustic phenomenon that occurs when strings, or parts of strings, resonate at their fundamental or harmonic frequencies when other strings are played. When STRING RES is turned on, all notes you play will affect each other to reproduce the wonderful acoustics that occurs inside an acoustic grand or upright piano. You will also hear all the strings resonate if you press the sustain pedal and play some notes.

If a piano is selected that isn’t compatible with the String Resonance feature, this function will be disabled. This applies to e.g. the small (Sml) versions of the grand pianos and uprights, or the electric pianos.

Range: +/- 6 dB (0 dB default)

It should be noted that this is accessible by pressing Shift-Sound (the #2 Program button). It's the first setting to appear. Then use the List/Value knob to select the level you want. Press the Shift button to exit - it saves automatically.
