Basic help request - Adding a sound file to my Electro6D

Apologies. Newcomer here. Please be sympathetic... I have only recently bought my Electro6D (hitherto Nord virgin). I am trying to upload two or three bell sounds to my keyboard for Xmas gig requirements... I have downloaded the Nord Sound Manager v7.66 to my iMac... I have downloaded three bell sounds from the Samp Lib... and now I cannot find a way to upload the sounds. Goodness knows how I will access them on the 6D itself... The YouTube videos I've watched make it look easy to drag and drop sound downloads across the screen... Do I load to Samp lib or Program?... I'm stuck... Please help!

Hello and welcome to NUF,

NE6 manual is your #1 friend and its fellow NSM manual as well, more than videos or at least in addition to (sorry to say but that's the truth, "Read the Friendly  Manuals" does help and Nord's are relatively short compared to others, so they don't require a big reading effort :-) )

Anyway, to your question: Synth Samples (i.e. .nsmp or .nsmp2 or .nsmp3 files, either from Nord Library or user's) must be loaded to SampLib tab in NSM while Programs (.ne6p) to the related tab. If you downloaded files from Nord Sample Library you are in the first case then

Once downloaded to NE6, the Samples are only stored as such in the NE6 synth sample memory, but to use them you need to create a Program (or use an existing one) and select that sample in the Synth Section (of course having turned the Synth section on before doing that)

The generic sample library for the NE6 is Nord Sample Library 3.0. You can use samples from the 2.0 library as well as the NSM will convert it to the newer format. You cannot use the Nord Sample Library 4.0 samples, though.

Thank you, Maxpiano. Thank you, FZiegler. I feel you are helping me find light at the end of a tunnel. :). I will try things out as you have advised in the sunlight tomorrow... I'm not a natural screen techhie type. You are helping me make the first steps. I wish I'd come to these forums earlier. Best wishes to you both.

and don‘t forget to link your nord electro to your Mac with a USB cable.

And so it goes on... When I originally tried to download three percussion samples, my machine set about loading a whole directory of sounds to my electro6. I did not ask for that!

So I've kind of concluded I need to get rid of all that by a Restore.

I have been trying to do that for the last 30 mins or so but the file downloaded for the restore says it doesn't recognize the file type for this... so I've got nowhere!

It's very frustrating. :(

All I want to do is to add a few bell samples to the presets in the electro6d so I will ignore all the other stuff there if I can't shift it.

I think I need a drink.

Any further help genuinely requested... and sorry if this annoys the experts x

Hi,

the way to load samples to a Nord with their Sound Manager software is pretty much forward and usually easy - once the concept is understood.

Can you explain step by step what you did to try and load these three percussion samples to your Electro with the help of Nord's Sound Manager, including the exact file names and file extension of the samples you tried to load and what you did exactly in Sound Manager to load them to your Electro - ideally supported by some screen shots?

As for the restore can you provide the same kind of information please?

By this we should be able to easily identify the root cause of your problem I guess

And yes, have a drink first to calm down ;)

I will, Scorsch. I feel frazzled - mostly because this has to be simple and I haven't 'got' it!
It will take me a while to write this all down so I'll come back in time after I have zennnnd out a bit.
