Nord Rack 2X: problem in manual mode

Hi all,
I've recently purchased a NR2X (still under guarantee), but I'm experiencing some problems in manual mode (I'm not really an expert on synths, bought this one to learn how to use them). Performance mode works great, however. I've tried the rack out with different midi-keyboards, but it's always the same: there's some kind of basic "lead effect" accompanying any program I load, even the percussion sounds. I hear the percussion in the background, but there's always this lead effect also, much louder than the loaded program is. The knobs all work.
What should I do? Any idea? Please help me out!
Thanks a lot!

Hello hey_jude,
Welcome to the forums,
Check the MIDI channel(s) assigned to each one of the Slots.
Any slots with the same MIDI channel number as the keyboard, will play.
To avoid conflicts, the Slots should not be assigned the same channel number, or as that of the Global MIDI channel.
Pages 11 and 76 of the
Manual should help.
Cheers, Hanon

I've already checked how to change the midi channels, but I don't really understand on which channel number I should put the slots? For A-B-C-D in Manual mode, and for A-B-C-D in Performance mode? What's the basic setting? My keyboard is set on Channel 1.
Also I don't really understand when you say, "each slot assigned to the same channel as the keyboard will play". My ABCD slots are all assigned to 1.
Thanks for helping

See the Slot just as one synthesizer, so ABCD are four different synths. When you assign the Slots to the same channel, they all will produce sound, no matter if the LED is shining or not! A Slot will always react to the incomming Midi. Just set change the Slots you don't want to hear to another channel or to [off].
The NordRack has three modes: the Performance mode, which is working fine, you write, the Program mode, which means use single Programs and the Manual mode, which you have to enter by presasing [Shift+Performance] and which delivers a preset about the routing (buttons and LED's) and the parameters arte exactly how the knobs are on the Panel.
There is a special mode, the Pelle mode, which delivers a complete different synth based on Karplus-Strong synthesis, but better leave this one out yet...

If you want to learn more about the matter, try

Take your time to read it.
And also keep in mind a Rack can't do what the keyboard version can...

I have this problem with my NL2 keyboard as well. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that 'Manual Mode' is useless for just about anything other than sculpting sounds. The arpeggiater is screwed up, and so is the MIDI functionality in 'Manual Mode'. I have those exact same symptoms that you described, it's almost like there's a hidden 3rd oscillator somewhere that I can't turn off while using MIDI. The only thing you can do, is to just use 'Performance Mode'. Sucks to have to jump through hoops, but it works. Welcome to the pains of owning outboard gear that has a weak technical and user support base.

It's all working fine now. I set only the A slot to midi channel 1, so there's no other slot interfering with it.
Thanks a lot for your advice, all of you! Matthew, I hope you can fix your problem this way too!
