NS3 Emergency! Strange boot-up fail...

Hi all. I use my NS3 compact regularly without trouble. Yesterday was an outdoor setup, bright afternoon sun.

- On power-up, could not see anything on the screen
- At first though it was a bad IEC, but then noticed some of the LED's lit on the Levels.b
- No reponse from any buttons pressed, including sound from keys.
- Tried some different chords with no lock.

Thinking it might be "bad voltage" somehow, I took it down to the hotel lobby.

- Noticed a weird "cycle” of LEDs on the KB Zone level meter : a wing-like pattern going from 9 to 12 to 3 o’clock and then resting with a single bar at 12

- Song Parts 1,2,3 and 4 then all lit together with a blank main screen
- Several times when trying this I saw a bizarre “Matrix-like” pattern of text/bars on the bootup-screen
- The screen is now just blank on start-up.

While I was thankfully able to borrow a different board for the gig, the problem persists at home.

- Nord Sound Manager is able to “see” the NS3, but upon attempting a Factory Reset, I got this :

Protocol Not Supported
The connected Nord Stage 3 (v2.12)
does not support required protocols:
FileTransfer protocol is not supported.
Ul Protocol is not supported

- So, I attemtped an OS update and noticed this “Your current OS is 0.00

- I attempted the update. The NS3 seemed to respond by powering-off and on, but beyond that just blank. After sending the update, it’s been hanging on “Waiting for Reboot to complete” for approximately 2 hrs.

I’m at a loss for what to do next. Is there a Hardware reset I can do with the Stage?

I don’t know if someone the case got bumped in transit and broke something important, or some voltage issue fried something.(?!?)

Hoping for a miracle,

Ben

Hi,

if the NS3 is still under warranty I would suggest to take it to service. Otherwise you may open it and check if all connectors are still sitting firm or if some are partially loose, maybe just try to push or reseat all of them and then try again to boot up the Nord, eventually reload the OS with the special emergency update procedure as described at the very bottom of the troubleshooting section in the update instructions .

Good luck

UPDATE

I ended up taking the NS3 to a repair place (Deltronics in Chicago), and fortunately the tech made sure of some firmer connections (something apparently was a bit off) and that resolved the boot issue.

Much thanks to all those who replied,

Ben

Thank you for reporting! You have been through a bad few days, but documented a behaviour all of us could get in touch with. We're a little prepared to see your message “Your current OS is 0.00” ourselves. Fortunately, the desired miracle seems to have taken place.

EDIT: Sorry to hear your issue isn't solved totally (post155989.html#p155989).
