Hi,

Contemplating move back to the UK from USA. I have a Stage 3 in an SKB case as well as a Hammond xk-1c in a soft case.

How have folks transported Nord's overseas? There's a few options from putting it on the domestic flight with you, to fedexing, to shipping it with your main stuff via a specailst mover/carrier, to "Don't take the risk, sell it and buy again"

Be great to get info on your successes in SAFELY transporting these great instruments.

I’ve done a few overseas moves and taken keyboards with me. If you don’t have a lot then getting everything on a pallet and transporting by air is a good option. If you have a household then either a full or partial cargo container and shipping by sea.

FedEx would be difficult if it’s not a Stage 3 Compact due to the weight of the keyboard, case and if you wanted to then pack around the case. Depends if the SKB is also suitable for airline shipping. I once shipped my Ensoniq TS-12 on a domestic flight in a SKB and it was ok. Did the same as checked baggage and also ok, but your results may vary.

I've taken my Nord Electro 5D 73 from the UK to New Zealand and back in the Nord Soft case with cardboard over the top of the keybed and controls, and then wrapped in bubble wrap all inside the case. Put fragile stickers all over. On the leg over to NZ I managed to convince Emirates to let me take the keyboard with me as carry on, but this was during the pandemic where there was lots of space. On the way back it was checked in and survived the journey fine, but I counted myself lucky.

However, with the Nord prices in the USA... if the second hand market is good, then sell and buy seems a sensible option. A new Nord Stage 3 88 looks like $5,299 in the US and you can get that for £3,329 -> $4072 in the UK.
