How to understand if the keyboard has problem?

Post by WonderGnagno »

Hi,
I'm going to buy a stage 3 piano and I'd like to do same checks in order to evaluate the general status.

The question are:
is there a trick to understand if the keyboard has some hardware problem.
which are the check you suggest to me to evaluate?

Thanks in advance
BR

As someone who just bought my first Nord a couple weeks ago you have learn of understand some issues are you don't know how do something on the Nord instead of the Nord being broken. Like for me I got a expression pedal for my Nord. I hooked it up and it was doing anything I was trying organ, synth, all sorts of programs and nothing. So I was thinking maybe something on the Nord isn't working. Then I started checking out some YT and stumble across someone setting up a expression pedal and pressing the button and the knob setting I didn't know about. So best to question whether you are up to speed on the Nord first before thinking it's a Nord problem.

Take someone with you that knows the instrument. Read the manual extensively (poor substitute). Lots of experience with digital instruments in general helps, too.
Typical thing: Test all keys one by one with different amounts of velocity, turn all controls/knobs for function and listen to crackling noises, knock softly on the housing and listen if it does anything to the sound (should not).

I would check that the keyboard does not make mechanical clackety noises, that the outputs (including USB port) all work, that the rotary encoder (Prog/Menu Organize) works fine. If possible request that they load the latest OS (should be version 2.00) so you know if there are any issues with the USB ports.

Both may be right as the OP says stage 3 piano, so it could be:
2.62 if the OP talks about nord stage 3 or
2.00 if the OP means a nord piano 3

Cheers

Thanks. Yes, I was assuming it was at NP3.

Ha, I thought the OP was referring to the NS3 given the forum section.
