Odd MIDI signal - W2 and Logic Pro X

Odd one here, and likely a NORD rookie mistake. I've been scouring the web but haven't hit upon the keyword combination that solves this. I hope one of you fine folk has a solution.

When my Wave 2 is plugged via USB-C into my MacBook Pro (2021) and via audio cables to a Focusrite Scarlett, which is also connected to a laptop USB port, there is a repeated and annoying note that just drones on every few seconds. It seems as though the Nord is receiving a signal from the laptop when Logic Pro X is running, but I have no idea where from. It seems to happen on both audio and MIDI tracks. I've never had this issue with any other hardware/software combinations.

I'm at a loss.

Help...

Thank you, Jeff

Please post a recording. Nord uses unbalanced audio cables, so the audio and USB share a signal return path ("ground loop"). USB2.0 uses a 1kHz frame, so if you hear an unexpected 1kHz, its likely coming from USB via ground loop.

I recall a case in the past where running the laptop on battery (disconnect power cable) made the sound go away. I don't think this applies to the way you described your wiring but it is an easy thing to try (and if it remedies the issue it definitely indicates ground loop).

You might also make sure that Logic doesn’t have a control surface set up that is now addressing the Nord MIDI ports.

I will record what's going on tomorrow and post it.
