Gap around keybed in Stage 3 Compact

I just received a new Stage 3 Compact from Guitar Center - the box was banged up during transit but the keyboard is pristine. This replaces one I returned which did not fare so well during transit and arrived with a scraped wooden cheek and some loose bits inside - Nord advised I return it.
But the thing I am noticing, which I *believe* was not the case in the one I returned, is that there seems to be an inordinately wide gap between the keybed and the wooden cheeks - especially the right one. I can see straight down into the metal panel floor. I am concerned about this because living in NYC, the oily dusty air here is sudden death to exposed electronics, and I am worried about contacts getting dirty and also accidentally dropping or spilling something in there during gigs.
Can anyone here either confirm my concern or reassure me that this is in spec? The Stage 3s seem to be very scarce at the moment - all stores seem to have them on backorder (I wonder for how long this has been going on?), so I'm reluctant to send it back unless this really is an issue. It just seems odd to me because my Stage 2 has such a careful fit, though that is a Hammer Action and not a Compact.
It's quite possible there was this large a gap in the one I returned but I didn't notice because my attention was fixed on the scraped cheek, but I took a picture of it and it definitely seemed smaller. I don't know?
Here are pictures of the NS3C in question.
