Nord Electro 6HP action

Hey guys! I’m new to this form!

I’ve played many nords learning on the stage 2 and later on buying a Nord grand! I also had a electro 3 73 waterfall Keybed and now am a proud owner of a electro 6 Hp !

My problem/concern is about the HP keybed
First off the Keybed is actually very solid it’s not Janky or loud as some people have reported and it honestly feels like a great keyboard!

But… it’s a lot heavier then I could have imagined! The keyboard feels great but the weight on the keys is very heavy it’s on par with the weight of a Yamaha Keybed it feels incredibly similar to a CP88. Its not bad in anyway it’s just a bit hard to get used too ! most nords I’ve played don’t feels nearly as heavy. Compared to the stage 2 it’s about double the weight on one key. Does anyone have a HP Keybed ? Is this a common thing ? Will it loosen up ?

Thanks, Josiah

Hi there, Have you ever tried your self HP action before you bought Nord electro 6HP? HP is harder on push than HA, I don't think it will loosen up drastically. It will become softer over time, but that's so little that won't even notice (probably).

I also bought the Nord Electro 6 HP to accompany my Nord Stage 2. The only reason I bought it was for not having to carry 24 kg of big bag and instrument for weekly rehersal. I really enjoy the HA action on my Nord Stage 2 so I assumed the HP action not to different.
But I really dont like the HP action - way to heavy - maybe I should have bought the Nord Electro 6D 73 instead or wait for Electro 7 :-)

Longtime user of the HP action here.

Try playing lighter than you think you should. It seems weird at first, but I've gotten positive results from it.

Did you try the KBD TOUCH feature? Turn that on (there are 3 levels) and you might find that it suits you better. With it on you get more response with less power required.

Mike.

Thanks for the reply’s yeah honestly I’ve come to the conclusion it’s just a really heavy action! Honestly feels on par with a Yamaha Keybed if not a bit heavier it feels a lot more premium feeling then a stage 2 action but honestly I’m a very different way hard to explain the weight of it but thankfully the Keybed has some Depth to it. I tried the KB touch and honestly doesn’t really make to much of a difference but the more I play the more I’ll get used to it.

Side note does anyone know if the Nord piano 5 73 has a different action then the HP ? Same key count but it seems to start and finish on different keys then the typical 73 key Keybeds. Is it a HP action or a grand feel action that is sunken?

From what I read the Nord Piano 5 73 should have a much better action - "Grand Weighted Action" - So I wonder how similar "Grand Weighted" action is compared to "Hammer Action" I have on my NordStage 2 - 76 or on NordStage 3 - 88.

From the specifications I see that my light Soft bag for Nord Electro 6 HP will fit for the new Nord Piano 5 73 - So with that combination you have 15.5 kg + 2.8 kg bag = 18.3 kg package with good action (hopefully). My Nord Stage 2 + bag weight is 23,9 kg - is very big - and feels heavy to carry around...

NP5 73 uses the same HA action as its 88 counterpart, like it used to be with NS2 88/76 HA (and I hope HA 76 will get back to the NS family too instead of the HP, in its next revision, 3EX or 4 or whatever it will be named)

Hi Josiah,

I‘m not sure if the look at a Piano 5 would help you. The thing is, does the feel you are used to come from a real piano action or from synthy keybed actions? Compared to real pianos the socalled HA keybeds are best option as they try to imitate all specs such as weight, response, release and repetition. The force you need to press down a key is not so much a difference to the HP keybeds, but the rest is. So NP 5 could be it if you come from pianos.

I am a piano player on the one side and a rock keyboardist on the other. I play piano songs better on a SW semiweighted keybed than on an HP. The HP is thought to be the compromise between HA and SW, but I just don‘t like it.

Sunny regards from Germany.
