My Electro 3's organ manual split seems to have stopped working correctly. When activating the split, it still splits at middle C, which is the default. But I like to have it split at either C2 or G2, and the process for doing that doesn't seem to be working anymore - it just keeps the split at middle C. Time for a factory reset?

From the NE3 manual:
If you press and hold both the Shift and the Preset/Split buttons for a couple of seconds, the Split LED will begin to flash and you can press a key on the keyboard to set a new split point as long as these buttons are held down. The key you press will be the first upper manual key.
--Is your SHIFT button working correctly for other functions? If you have a hardware issue, reloading the factory settings won't accomplish anything.

I stand corrected - whenever I try to use split, it just switches the organ to upper manual for the full keyboard. It does this both when using the default split and the custom split.

The shift button works fine for other functions.

I find this a little confusing:
1. When you hold SHIFT and repeatedly press PRESET/SPLIT does the SPLIT LED cycle between ON and OFF? That is, can you enter/exit SPLIT mode? If not, it likely indicates a hardware fault.

2. When you push and hold both SHIFT and PRESET/SPLIT does the SPLIT LED start flashing?

3. On my NE3HP, when the SPLIT LED starts flashing, I must continue to hold SHIFT and PRESET/SPLIT while pressing the new split target keybed key. Give this a try.

1. Yes and yes. The LED indicates that I've entered split mode, but the keyboard does not split it all becomes upper manual. You can still toggle between the upper and lower drawbars, but changing the drawbar settings for the lower doesn't do a thing, as you can't hear that manual anywhere on the keyboard. Once you leave split mode, you can go back to toggling between the manuals.

3. That's how I've always done it. Still nothing!

I'm going to try the reset tonight and see if that changes anything.

Check in the MIDI menu if you maybe have enabled MIDI Split, in that case the Lower manual is always controlled by an external keyboard on the Lower Channel (see NE3 manual, MIDI menu section)


MIDI Split Mode
If MIDI Split mode is On and the Organ is set to a split operation, the lower manual will be exclusively controlled via incoming MIDI infor- mation to the Electro 3’s MIDI input . If you connect an external MIDI keyboard, the Electro 3 can then be used in a dual manual fashion .
Range: On, Off(default)

Lower Channel
This sets the MIDI channel that the Lower Manual of the Nord Electro 3 organ section responds to when the organ split and the MIDI split modes are active .
Range:1-16, OF - off(default=2)

That's exactly it! Thank you. I used the Nord as a MIDI controller late last year for the first time ever. Must've accidentally changed the wrong setting.
